New Camper Mirrors

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have seen them in person many times now, coming down the road and setting on the lot. It looks like Dumbo is in town. I know their function is much better with the vertical glass and convex mirror but, come on. D^&$e hit the nail on the head with the simple "flop over" extenders. They have the low profile, horizontal look, with convex. With a flip, they are vertical, extended, and convex all in one. They look and function much better IMHO. The extending arms on the new GM mirrors look weak and the mirror itself does not set straight up and down, it kind of leans in, looking awkward. I think GM just needs some input from us to get a good-looking, functional camper mirror because they have dropped the ball twice in a row.

The flip up one would be nice, but I believe most of the people who hand the extending mirrors neet the extra distance out to see around the trailer they are towing. I think GM is moving in the right direction, but they just dropped the ball here. If they mat the mirrors straight, fixed the back to be more streamlined(i.e. smooth like the standard mirrors), added running lights and signals like Fords(I hate the in glass signals), and possibly made them so when they are retracted they are the same distance from the truck as standard mirrors. Also I think I would rather see a larger solid arm rather than the two skinny arms thay currently have, they could even just cover the gap between the two arms and I think they would look better...

My time to chime in. First, I have the mirrors, I like them, and they do look "different" but after a few months with them they have grown on me, just like the front end when the 03's came on the market.

GM finally did it right. First, the dual arms offer less drag and more stability than a single large arm. The "flip up" camper mirrors like D*d*e require the driver to adjust the glass whenever you flip them, the new GM you just pull out. Now, the "lean" in the mirrors, let our imaginations fly, but these were developed for the next generation truck, but they liked them so much GM wanted to put them on the market now.
