sub box for r/c?

Recommended Posts

hey, I have a probox sub-box for my 2-12" subs and the box is made just for r/c chevy/sierra truck but it is a sealed box. does anyone know where to find a ported box for 2-12's that will fit in a chevy reg cab? Prefferably custom fit...?

I wouldn't mind trying that but I'm afraid that I would mess up. Where are these calculators located at? Are there any boxes out there already ported for 2-12's to fit a reg cab chevy?

Trying to port a sealed box is very very difficult and in most cases not possible. Ported boxes are generally twice the size of sealed enclosures. So porting a sealed box will sound like poop.

Is there no hope for me then? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Putting 2 ported 12's in a single cab will be very very hard. Possible? Yes. Expensive? Like no other. It would require lots of custom fiberglass work and most likely some metal fab.

Of course there is always the option of doing a blowthrough, which i strongly recommend NOT doing.

So why are you wanting a ported box, anyway?

Anyway, what subs are you using. And also include the amp. I might be able to build you something and mail it to ya. Pics inc of my most resent install in my '97 ext cab.

I have two JL 12's w-1 with a jl e1400d amp.  I was wanting a ported box to sound better.

Nearly every single SQ (sound quality) competition level car system will be based around a sealed enclosure. Ported is almost strictly for SPL. Who cares how it sounds, just make it loud....i hate that part of car audio.

As far as making them sound better...upgrading to a higher wattage sub would make a huge difference. My 2 JL 12W3V2's are rocking. Also, remember that bass in anything musical will still be translated through your reference/midbass and tweeters. Having poor performing front stage speakers will make even the best subs sound like crap.

Are you using factory door speakers and such?

yeah I am, but I don't want it to be too loud, just better bass sound. My Rocksford fosgate p-2 subs sounded better than these but didn't get as loud and they were in the same box, but I had a lower wattage RF amp. they feel like they are 'hitting' too hard and its not as enjoyable as my RF's were. I'm thinking about switching back. Any tips?

have you tried to turn down the bass and/or gain on the amp?

Exactly. Going ported would make the subs even louder. Make sure your head unit doesn't have bass up too high, and also turn off "loud" if so equipped. Turn off bass boosts...back off the gain a little...alot you could do to make them not so punchy.

And i don't quite get what you mean by better bass sound. Do you mean lower tone? Less resonance? tighter, with less distortion?

I have the gain almost all the way up and the bass control all the way up while I adjusted the bass with the cd-player. I'll try and turn the gain down and the bass down. the sound I want is just smoother bass, not quieter, just smoother, not punchy. I have the frequency set at 80 on the amp, mid at 3+(cdplayer), bass at 0 or middle. I'm going to mess with it to try and get a smoother sound. Thanks for your support and it you have any more tips please let me know.
