Homelink Help!

OK, so I bought a tahoe overhead console to put in my sierra. Followed the homelink clearing & programming instructions perfectly. But since I have a rollong code garage door opener, I didn't run into the garage & climb up & press that learning button on the GDO. i.e. I didn't finish the programming job. BUT, the console appeared to function fine & behaved as the programming instructions said it should.

So finally, when the weather got better, I did the "push the learning button on the GDO & run back to the truck to push the button" thing. It worked perfectly.

I only used it once or twice, and it stopped working - the LED would flash VERY rapidly when I pressed any button or any combination of buttons. (Very rapidly = like 5 or 10 flashes each second)

So I reprogrammed from the top of the instructions, including master memory erase first. But all it would do is flash rapidly - wouldn't even clear. I even held the clear buttons down for like 20 whole minutes while driving one day.

So I called homelink directly. At the end of the call, all they could say was "take it to your dealer"

But here's the rub. This is out of a Tahoe & I have a Sierra. It's not stock. And even if they were willing to help me I can't see spending a half day at the dealer only for them to tell me "yep, the console doesn't work - we'll have to order you a new one", then come back AGAIN & spend hours just to install it.

SO - I'd like to fix it myself, even if it's just a replacement.

Here are my questions:

1) Has anyone ever seen this behavior before? If yes, what did you do to fix it?

2) Has anyone ever swapped Homelink *modules* from one console to the next? Can this be done?

3) Does anyone know if it's possible to order just the homelink *module*?

4) If all I can find is a Tahoe console with rear AC controls, can I take those out & swap them with the little pocket that is in mine?

Thanks, folks, for all your help.

Mine was doing the same thing and I believe it's the rolling code. Follow the instructions for rolling codes and that should work.

Thanks for the reply. Was yours doing this flashing thing *forever* or just for a few seconds? Mine goes on forever - and the online FAQ sez

To verify HomeLink has picked up a rolling code signal: press and hold the programmed HomeLink button. If the indicator light blinks rapidly for two seconds and turns solid, HomeLink has successfully picked up the rolling code signal. Please follow the rolling code instructions outlined in the "programming a garage door opener" section to complete the process.

And since I can't even clear mine by holding down the 2 outside buttons for a stinkin' eternity, I'm still thinking I'm screwed.

Consensus?

Mine didn't flash forever. If I remember right I tried programming without a rolling code first and it wouldn't work. When I did the rolling code I had to reset it a couple of times before it took the code. It seemed to me it was a lot of screwing around for something that should be real simple.

You might want to pull the fuse to help clear the system then try it again.
