Rusted Fast Reciever

For some reason or another this past winter I left my reciever in all winter and I didn't bother to put any grease on it either, which I usually do to prevent this. Any good tips on getting it out? I was told to try heating the hitch up but I was afraid it would weaken the steel.

give her a few taps with a small sledge hammer, my cousins tire literally fused itself to the studs last winter and she got a flat tire, luckily for her she was on the side of the road in the middle of the snow, so i had to get on my back and beat it with a sledge and dodge the sludge!, i wouldn't try to heat up the hitch just yet, id use that as a last resort, squirt the heck out of it with wd40, and then give it a few gentle taps and just keep working it, thats my .02 cents good luck!!!

On my 02 Silverado, I can get behind the reciever and tap it out. I don't know if you can get behind yours or not, but I would try some good PB Blaster and tap it side to side and work it a little. Otherwise try to get behind the reciver and tap it out. They can be a bear I know that!!! I don't use mine very often, but more often than not I find myself in your situation almost every time I want to get it out. Good Luck!! Just my opinion.

Lots of penetrating fluid, some time and a couple of good whacks with a mallet should break it loose.

Why not spray with Rust buster or other rust loosening product and hook a tow rope to a good sized tree. It will come out.

Now that's the manly way to do it, 'cept I wouldn't waste my time with the spray stuff. Perhaps a heavy blanket, coat, rug, etc... to prevent any recoil mishaps.

But I had to marry a nurse for a reason too.

I know a guy with this problem, and we tried everything here, and its still stuck in there. We tried the tow strap trick, and he slowly crept forward, but that didn't work either. We gave up.

Well that's the problem, a little jerk never hurt nothing. Just don't jerk it hard enough to set the air bag off. (Really hard)

Leave the pin in there, spray it down real good with WD40. Hook it up to your boat / Trailer drive around town for a hour or so in stop and go traffic. I had one stuck solid one time and did that, our camp is about 45 min away on the interstate. When I got to the camp the receiver had freed up enough that I could pull it out. Between the WD40 the 4000 pound boat pushing and pulling on it, and the road vibrations mine freed up.
