Is this true?

There is no throttle cable on the new models. The throttle is some sort of electric wire?

Yup. Drive by wire is becoming common on many new vehicles.

GM first started DBW on the 6.5L Turbo Diesel in 1994. C5 Corvette has had it since 1997.

It's probably more reliable and precise than the old cable.

I don't know too much about drive by wire but how could it be more reliable and precise? It's just more wires and what not and sensors to depend on creating a bigger chance of failure as compared to a steel cable attached to the gas pedal.

I kinda agree with you on reliabilty and precision, but planes have been fly by wire for quite some time. I know that fighter jets take the input from the pilot and determines the best way to move the flaps and ailerons. But then I think what if it goes out? The best way is to make redundent systems in case one goes out, which would cost more, but thats how airplanes handle failure. So I guess they will need to build cars like that. Just an idea, throwing that out there.

If it fails it goes to reduced power or idle.

Alot nicer than having the throttle body getting stuck open or something, hahaha!!

What I thought is neat is the fact that the C4 Vette had traction control even though it didn't have drive by wire. There was a weird pulley that the throttle cable was fed through and in cases with reduced traction, the pulley would turn and back off the throttle.

So how many 'modules' are involved in this? Anyone with this ever have to repair any parts of this drive by wire system?

I currenty own a C4 1994 ZR-1 & 2001 C5 and i can tell you the cruise, traction control is crude compaired to the C5 system W/ DBW its smooth and flawless.
