I'll Be Seeing Ya All, The Jimmy Is Gone

Well, the time's finally come (and too many $$'s already spent on repairs)

I traded in my '00 Jimmy for an '04 Jeep Unlimited.

 

The final straw was finding out that just the labor charge for replacing the heater core was going to be $600+ .... I don't think so!!! Some rad stop leak fixed it good enough for the last couple days I had it.

 

I probably shouldn't have spent the $$'s on new front brakes a week or so before I got the Jeep, but oh well, stuff happens.

 

I found this '04 Jeep Unlimited with 17K. I've never been to keen on red vehicles, but this thing doesn't look too bad.

Guess it's that "Jeep Thing" I've heard about.

You can let us know how things are on the dark side... and yeah, that jeep is pretty cool, I'm not too keen on red either, but it looks good on jeeps for some reason.

To tell you the truth, I toy with the idea of buying an old jeep and making it a mud monster at least once a month. I would too if I didn't have other, more grandiose plans... Hope you enjoy it!

 

As for the Jeep thing... when you love such an ugly thing as a Jeep, you all gotta stick together!

Good luck w/ the Jeep, your s-10 Blazer was one my favorites, and no reason to bail... folks with some experience and know-how are what make this forum run (current GM owner or otherwise).

Thanks all, I'm sure I'll stray away from the dark side from time to time to see how all's going here.

 

As for changing the heater core myself, I had thought about it, but my only other mode of transport right now is my streetbike, and with working nights and the temps dipping down to the mid/lower 40's, a 36mi round trip, and work just putting us on atleast 10hrs./week O.T., I passed on doing it myself.

 

And Fourwheelinfool, I did look at an older Jeep that was already built up, but didn't want to deal with not knowing how well the build up was done or how much the P.O. already beat on it, seeing as I needed a daily driver.

I do have future plans of eventually building this one up a little at a time. I'll be sure to post pics as that progresses

 

It was nice to hear that some of ya here liked my Jimmy. It was one of my favorite rides I've owned.

 

And I have already done some minor off roading with the Jeep. It did do a few things in 2wd that the Jimmy would only have done in 4wd. Wish I woulda had my camera with me!

I'm not sure about the Jimmy, but the blazer, especially the mid 90's was one of the most problematic vehicles GM ever made. They've really made great strides since then and I hope you don't carry a grudge against GM.

No grudge at all.

The GM's I've owned have treated me pretty good, just that buying stuff with higher mileage has bit me once too often now.

This Jeep only has 17k, and seeing as I wasn't too concered about spending a few $$'s, I went with the extended warranty too, just incase.

 

Ya never know... If I end up building this thing up enough, I may just get another GM for a daily driver sometime in the future. I wont/can't say I'll never own another just because of the issues the Jimmy had.

 

And FourWheelinFool, I almost went with a soft top, but liked the hard top better. Thanx for confirming my choice as a good one.
