Tsb On Ebony Seat

Get this, he wont recover my seats with leather because he believes it will compromise the passenger seat's airbag sensor. So of course I told him to replace the complete seat then. He changed the subject :nono:

That is BS. I just had my truck done up with the Katzkin leather, and they had to recalibrate the sensor, and that was it. That was one of my questions when I got the lint collectors changed out, and it was not even an issue. Ammazine what a dealership will tell you to avoid getting the job done :dunno: .

There may be some truth in that in some way. GM bought back a number of cars and trucks a couple of years ago because it recovered the seats and resold the vehicles (I assume they were former rental vehicles). I don't remember specifics and I am not sure why they chose that route. After they discovered that they didn't recalibrate the seats before they were sold; they had a choice of recalibration, replacing the whole seat, or buying back..go figure :dunno:

any new "solution or fixes" to the ebony cloth seat/lint issue? my dealer hasn;t got any news since the first solution was "retracted". just wondering if anyone heard anything new? thanks

Check out service bulletin. If one reads betwen the lines it says they know the problem but have not a solution in about one year. It implies one is comming, which seems doubtful.

I would prefer it be more honest and say a solution is not comming if that is thier stand because I find fabrications a problem.

Now here is my question. Since they have said it is a problem and it can not be fixed is this grounds for the lemon law that says after 3 tries they must replace the vechile?

since i just got my truck should i call and log a complaint?

Definetly. I walked into my service department with a copy of the TSB in hand and showed it to them. They took my name and added me to the list so when a resolution is found, they would give me a call. I also called GMC Canada and talked to some lady there and also logged my complaint.

Here is a good solution, and best of all it is free:

The seats collect lint. Lint comes from clothes. So obviously, if you do not wear any clothes while sitting in any of the seats, there will not be any lint! So, make sure the driver and all passengers are naked before they get into the truck.

What about body hair? I'd imagine if they collect that much lint, hair wouldn't be much different.

Oh yeah, shave the heads and bodies of all the passengers too! (Addendum to the lint TSB)

Wow, I didn't know this was such a big issue. I have the ebony interior in my 08 gmc and my dad has the titanium in his 07 chevy and they are both huge lint collectors. I just shot an email to gmc telling them about it. At the least maybe they'll send me some making tape and a lint roller.

Eventually you'll work up to a free oil change coupon in exchange for your silence on the issue:D

    • I agree, simplicity and reliability matter more as vehicles get more complicated. A V8 work truck option with fewer electronic features and a stronger warranty would definitely appeal to a lot of buyers who use their trucks for real work. Customizing it with trusted outfitters is often the best way to get exactly what you need
    • I’ve heard similar complaints from newer vehicles where the factory “premium” systems don’t always live up to expectations. A good installer should be able to improve the sound without turning it into a bass-heavy setup. I’d look into upgrading the front speakers, adding a quality DSP amplifier, and possibly improving sound deadening first—those changes usually make a much bigger difference than just adding a subwoofer. Hopefully someone local can recommend a reputable installer in the Las Vegas/St. George area.
    • Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.
    • The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.
