Tsb On Ebony Seat

What material does the 2009's have? If they are using the same s**t, then they really don't plan to fix the 2007-2008 problem.

That's not necessarily true. If they honestly don't have a new supplier for the new material to "fix" the problem, it's not like GM is going to halt production on their trucks because they don't have a "fix" for the seats yet. Also, while this is a common issue for most of us here, my guess is that most of the other 99% of cloth seat owners will never complain even once.

My only question is, why do some dealer's go out of their way to make things right, while others do nothing.

I recently spoke to my dealership about it, they told me to wait for a few months to see what happens, if nothing comes down from above, they will see what they can do to make things better on their own.

I always thought that if something went wrong with my truck i can take it to ANY chevy dealership and they would service my truck or make things better accross the board.

Keep in mind the dealers hands are pretty much tied by GM, if they replace them, it will be out of the dealers pocket, not GM's.

Let's all keep in mind that the dealers pocket is the exact pocket that your money was put into when you bought the truck. It's not like I'm asking my salesmans kid to come work off the expense in my yard.

If GM directs me to the dealership for the resolution, they should provide one.

If GM does not have a fix for something then the dealers can not be held responsible or accountable for GMs mistakes or issues, don't get mad at the dealers or expect the dealers to resolve issues which GM will not resolve.

SOME of the money went to the dealer, for the services they provided, which was selling me one of GM's products. They did not build it or WARRANTY it, GM did that.

I do see your point about GM directing us to the dealers for resolution that the dealers can't provide... :)

"You can say what you want about the salesman..." was a hypothetical statement. Sorry, I worded that part badly... I realize you didn't write anything about the salesman's ethics, pro or con. Tom

The dealer should cover the costs. It's a massive dealership (top ten in the U.S.) so they know good and well how big of a problem this is. You can say what you want about the salesman hiding this problem in the beginning.... But after I told him I much preferred the light titanium he had no right whatsoever to keep hiding GM's dirty little ebony secrets. He should've told me the obvious truth (admitted light titanium is the only reasonable choice) and then gone through the "agony" of calling around until he found the truck that had the specs I wanted with the right color interior. And it wouldn't have been that difficult... That dealer's sister dealership (30 miles away) had a Silverado with light titanium and almost identical specs as the Sierra I ended up buying (I know because I looked at that Silverado). In fact I probably would've bought it had the GM salesman been honest with me about the Sierra and unable to find another Sierra with the right specs/interior color within 60 miles. Though I think he would've easily and quickly found such a truck if he had bothered to try.

Keep in mind the dealers hands are pretty much tied by GM, if they replace them, it will be out of the dealers pocket, not GM's.

Am I "You"? Because I said nothing about salesman hiding anything. Exactly what solution do you propose?

Over THIRTY pages of complaints in reply to one lint-related post and your "educated" guess is that 99% of GM/Chevy '07 and '08 owners "will never complain even once" about the seats being nothing short of lint magnets?

You really need to look up the definition of extrapolation and then consider how that word is applicable to the lint issue.... Maybe then you will realize your 99% guess is about as accurate as if you'd have guessed three months ago that the stock market would be booming right now.

Maybe he has a point...I would have guessed 98%. 99% is far too high of a number :D

I forgot to ask you to look around at comments about Ford, Toyota, and Dodge fabric seats. Get back to me when you find 35 pages worth of complaints (added to one thread) concerning the fabric seats of one of those makes. "99% of cloth seat owners wil never complain even once." That gets more and more laughable every time I read it.

Like most if not everyone else who's posted to this thread, this time last month there was no way I could ever see myself complaining about a lint problem and would consider anyone else complaining about such a problem to be a knit-picking whiner. That all changed the day I was suckered into buying a lint magnet '08 Sierra... In an interior color that highlights the lint it catches every bit as well as maroon felt highlights gold jewelry.

Next time you are "suckered" into buying one of these trucks, you might want to do some research. This thread has been contributed to for nearly a year now. I brought it up the first week I bought my truck back in late '06 in a post somewhere. This is a well known issue with GM (they did try a pathetic attempt to sort of fix it in a TSB) and on this forum and the fact that lint bothers you so much and you bought it anyway with cloth...thats laughable.

No one is going to "get back to you"...fight GM and not us :D

Before you go and throw another hissy, 99% was a figurative number, not a precise representation. I own a Sierra with the ebony cloth interior so you are barking up the wrong tree, pal. My point was simply that most average vehicle owners are not as critical as we are and most will not bitch to their dealers about the things we bitch about, therefore, it's not nearly as big an issue to GM as it is to us, here.

Stay Cool! :D

Just wanted to keep this issue alive to hopefully save a few people from making the BIG mistake of buying an ebony or two-tone '08 Sierra or Silverado cloth seat during the last two days of employee pricing. Well I should say alleged last two days. They said the same thing four weeks ago.... I for one don't like going into a dealer on Sept. 1 (which I did) and the salesman pretending I have 30 hours to decide on a deal when in reality I had a full month to get the exact same deal. Of course all of em' are now saying they had "no advanced notice" employee pricing would be extended well beyond the FAKE DEADLINE of Sept. 2. Sorry, I don't believe the "no idea" line for a second because they didn't even stop employee pricing for one minute. In other words, it was in effect the morning of Sept. 3 just as much as it was on the first "last day" (Sept. 2) they blabbed about on their commercials. I'd bet big bucks there will be several more weeks of employee pricing this year beyond Sept. 30 but I don't think GM will stoop low enough to advertise two fake deadlines within a month's time (they've stooped low enough already). In other words, there won't be any employee pricing come Oct. 1 but it will start back very soon - I'd say no later than Nov. 1 (and last the rest of the year).

Anyway, for anyone thinking of buying an '07 or '08 Sierra or Silverado with ebony cloth seats (or the super tacky/70's retro-looking two-tone cloth seats), DO NOT DO IT. Either get the light titanium cloth seats, leather, or buy something else. Yeah, lint will stick to the light titanium just as much as it does ebony (i.e. stick like paper clips to a magnet) but at least it will be camouflaged a lot better. Though I've seen a couple of threads added to this link where even light titanium buyers are pretty p'ed off about the lint buildup.

As far as the lint magnet/lint display piece I bought (aka '08 Sierra) I ended up buying on Sept. 2... The dealer agreed to take the thing back after I complained enough about: 1) the fake deadline that caused me to rush to get the truck before going out of town for ten days, 2) the salesman's unbelievable begging for perfect survey scores, 3) the salesman treating me like a 20yr old kid when discussing financing (came back from checking my credit with nothing but a monthly payment.... thought I'd jump at anything that sounded affordable without even hearing what what the interest rate was), 4) the lint magnet seats, and several other issues. I will admit I offered $500 to get out of the nightmare (and they took it). It was well worth it in my mind... I didn't want to go four or five years cleaning the seats twice weekly in order to keep passengers from wondering if I continuously suffered from the world's worst case of dandruff. It really is that bad... It's as if GM TRIED to come up with seats that sucked up and held on to particles of crap better than any fabric in history. And to continue using that fabric in '08 vehicles after knowing full well how much '07 buyers hated them = people responsible for that need to be fired and have "I'm an idiot" branded on their foreheads.

I also told the dealer to rectify the situation or I'd be mailing every Ford, Dodge, and Toyota dealer in the area about the lint problem (so the competitors' salespeople could show potential customers why they should NOT also consider a GM). I know if I was trying to sell non-GM pickups I'd be showing every potential customer huge excerpts of these 36 pages worth of complaints in order to keep them off GM lots.... It's simply an inexcusable problem that GM allowed to continue for at least 2.5 years (I have no idea if '09 models deserve a "lint magnet" label or not).
