Tsb On Ebony Seat

Just wanted to keep this issue alive to hopefully save a few people from making the BIG mistake of buying an ebony or two-tone '08 Sierra or Silverado cloth seat during the last two days of employee pricing. Well I should say alleged last two days. They said the same thing four weeks ago.... I for one don't like going into a dealer on Sept. 1 (which I did) and the salesman pretending I have 30 hours to decide on a deal when in reality I had a full month to get the exact same deal. Of course all of em' are now saying they had "no advanced notice" employee pricing would be extended well beyond the FAKE DEADLINE of Sept. 2. Sorry, I don't believe the "no idea" line for a second because they didn't even stop employee pricing for one minute. In other words, it was in effect the morning of Sept. 3 just as much as it was on the first "last day" (Sept. 2) they blabbed about on their commercials. I'd bet big bucks there will be several more weeks of employee pricing this year beyond Sept. 30 but I don't think GM will stoop low enough to advertise two fake deadlines within a month's time (they've stooped low enough already). In other words, there won't be any employee pricing come Oct. 1 but it will start back very soon - I'd say no later than Nov. 1 (and last the rest of the year).

Anyway, for anyone thinking of buying an '07 or '08 Sierra or Silverado with ebony cloth seats (or the super tacky/70's retro-looking two-tone cloth seats), DO NOT DO IT. Either get the light titanium cloth seats, leather, or buy something else. Yeah, lint will stick to the light titanium just as much as it does ebony (i.e. stick like paper clips to a magnet) but at least it will be camouflaged a lot better. Though I've seen a couple of threads added to this link where even light titanium buyers are pretty p'ed off about the lint buildup.

As far as the lint magnet/lint display piece I bought (aka '08 Sierra) I ended up buying on Sept. 2... The dealer agreed to take the thing back after I complained enough about: 1) the fake deadline that caused me to rush to get the truck before going out of town for ten days, 2) the salesman's unbelievable begging for perfect survey scores, 3) the salesman treating me like a 20yr old kid when discussing financing (came back from checking my credit with nothing but a monthly payment.... thought I'd jump at anything that sounded affordable without even hearing what what the interest rate was), 4) the lint magnet seats, and several other issues. I will admit I offered $500 to get out of the nightmare (and they took it). It was well worth it in my mind... I didn't want to go four or five years cleaning the seats twice weekly in order to keep passengers from wondering if I continuously suffered from the world's worst case of dandruff. It really is that bad... It's as if GM TRIED to come up with seats that sucked up and held on to particles of crap better than any fabric in history. And to continue using that fabric in '08 vehicles after knowing full well how much '07 buyers hated them = people responsible for that need to be fired and have "I'm an idiot" branded on their foreheads.

I also told the dealer to rectify the situation or I'd be mailing every Ford, Dodge, and Toyota dealer in the area about the lint problem (so the competitors' salespeople could show potential customers why they should NOT also consider a GM). I know if I was trying to sell non-GM pickups I'd be showing every potential customer huge excerpts of these 36 pages worth of complaints in order to keep them off GM lots.... It's simply an inexcusable problem that GM allowed to continue for at least 2.5 years (I have no idea if '09 models deserve a "lint magnet" label or not).

Ok, so I, like everyone else, am not exactly happy with the lint trap deal here, but......ITS NOT THAT BAD. So i take a lint roller to it once in a while. No big deal. This is absolutely NO REASON to go telling ppl not to buy them or to steer them towards a ...god it hurts to type it...FORD. Or a dodge or toyota. I love the truck other than the lint problem. I would like it fixed, but i can deal with using a lint roller......ARE WE THAT LAZY?

I'll tell you what really bothers me about my 08 Sierra, the damn thing has the nerve to get dirty. Wouldn't you think that as long as GM has been making trucks, they would learn how to make their trucks keep themselve clean? I don't have time to wash this truck every week. It's amazing that just because it gets used and driven in dirty muddy conditions it will allow itself to get dirty. I can't believe I bought this thing when I could have bought a truck that needs the tranny replaced the day it leaves the lot and rust's on the parking lot, or a truck that goes thru fuel like a fish thru water and has a name that sounds like a problem in the anal area, or a truck that rejects it's own spark plugs. :dunno: Instead I bought a truck that tells on me for being a lint slob and wearing the same clothes for multiple days.

No-one could possibly blame you for getting rid of that POS and trading it in on something that would fit you more perfectly.

Lint? what lint? :dunno::lol:

BTW daddy, I agree with you. My next door neighbor just bought a brand new 08 Tahoe with ebony cloth seats. He owns an Alaskan Malamute (she is my buddy, she likes me better than her owners, but that's a whole diffferent story. Awesome dog!!!) and his seats are covered in lint/dog hair. I told him about this "issue" and he looked at me like..."so what, I couldn't care less". Then again, he is probably pretty used to seeing dog hair everywhere. That dog sheds year-round and spends alot of time indoors.

I see there have been a few posts since last time I was on. Im not going to read them all, too tired maybe tomorrow.

Anyway I just wanted to let you all know that my dealer gave me their reps cell phone number and I have been breathing down his neck for the last 3 weeks now. He is the one who has the power to change my seats. Get this, he wont recover my seats with leather because he believes it will compromise the passenger seat's airbag sensor. So of course I told him to replace the complete seat then. He changed the subject :dunno:

Anyway, as the broken record continues "three weeks" is again what he told me. I told him of course I have been hearing that for 8 months now and this has been an issue for over a year. Well he let the cat out of the bag and told me that they have 05 Avalanches with the same problem. If they have not rectified a problem that they have known about since 05, well Im not holding my breath.

In the mean time I talked with my lawyer, I thought I could light a fire under their ass and see if I could get some results. My lawyer told me that if you dont like the seats buy another truck. They collect lint. It's not a safety issue, and they are not broken. Legally they do not have to do anything. However it's in their best interest to keep their customers satisfied. So my lawyers advice was to be patient, "you can catch more bees with honey".

My lawyer also suggest to keep on them, don't "go away" or give up. So since I have the reps number I plan on calling him on a regular basis until reminding him of my seats.

Bottom line, GM is more than likly not obligated to do anything <peroid>

So in the next two weeks we'll see what happens with this new fabric that they are coming out with.

I have a feeling that if it does come out, everyone will be pissed because there will be a HUGE backorder for it.

Well that's what I know.

    • I agree, simplicity and reliability matter more as vehicles get more complicated. A V8 work truck option with fewer electronic features and a stronger warranty would definitely appeal to a lot of buyers who use their trucks for real work. Customizing it with trusted outfitters is often the best way to get exactly what you need
    • I’ve heard similar complaints from newer vehicles where the factory “premium” systems don’t always live up to expectations. A good installer should be able to improve the sound without turning it into a bass-heavy setup. I’d look into upgrading the front speakers, adding a quality DSP amplifier, and possibly improving sound deadening first—those changes usually make a much bigger difference than just adding a subwoofer. Hopefully someone local can recommend a reputable installer in the Las Vegas/St. George area.
    • Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.
    • The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.
