Gm Dealer Installed Plastic Bed Liner (oem)

I am about to buy a 2008 silverado ltz ext cab fully loaded at the dealer ,they've installed a gm bed liner on it.

I would like to know if they apply some kind of material between the plastic and the box sheet metal ? (protection foam)?

I believe there will be some kind of rust on the sheet metal on the future if I don't remove the liner soon...

Do you agree? i don't paln to carry any hard stuff on the box.

tks

I've had Pendaliners in all of my trucks since the early 90s without a problem... that's been several hundred thousand miles in several trucks. The liner is the protection. Protection for the protection... where would we stop?

I can't say I have any experience w/liners cuz I don't. But a spray on liner (properly applied) would not allow trapped water and oxygen to generate rust like a "sit in liner. I think that's what he meant. However if you guys have had good luck with your liners, then maybe there's nothing to worry about.

Well the bedliners just get slapped in there and are held in place with 5 self tapping screws. I've installed quite a few of them, I dislike them simply because of the screws.

Drop in liners will abrade through the paint over time at all of the contact points; top of wheel housing, top rail etc. I pulled one out of my last truck when I had it Line-Xed and there was rust across the back of the bed where the edge of the liner was moving around. I have heard of a product you can apply under the liner to protect the bed but I don't know where to find it.

A dealer would never be so kind.

Here you go, product made by bedrug. It is the same backing that that they use on their bedrug.

No need to get get you panties in a wad over a drop-in and your box

rusting out next week !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another myth from the spray in crowd anyhoo !!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course the dealer won't put in one of those liner slips. But IMO they

are a waste anyhoo !

I use my bed HARD always tossing in construction debris, landscaping

materials, etc. never worry with a drop-in and bed damage.............

A spray-in???????? The bed would STILL be tore up, scratched and dented

anyhoo. Not to mention the spray in would be faded and most likely peeling

after a few years and look like crap and the bed would be all beat up too!

IMO its better to have a little paint rub in the bed than dents and scratches

and a faded chalky looking spray in.................................

It is technically true that the liner can rub through the paint over time, especially if the truck bed is used a lot to haul. I would imagine this could eventually become an issue in harsher climates where salt is used on the roads. I'm not claiming any sort of superiority for drop in liners here, but I really like them in my trucks. I don't personally care for the look of a spray in. Simple matter of taste.

Here in Texas, I've never had a problem with a plastic liner but I use my trucks like cars. I rarely haul much of anything in them. I know bedliners are like K&N filters. There are people that will fight to the death on both sides when armed with little more than old wives tales for facts. If it bothers you, add the liner for the liner. It seems to me that is just another level of product to trap dirt and moisture, but it is your truck.

Interesting Z, that is what my buddy did, he dropped in a rubber mat, then put on a plastic lining....

To me that's like wearing a condom over your condom. Might as well have watched a football game.

I've got the OEM bedliner - its just the plastic liner screwed into the bed and nothing more. It works great, and if I tear it up, just drop another one in at a later time. I've thrown lots of stuff in it and it's still holding up great.

However, there is one problem with it - it rattles. If you go over bumps you will hear it rattle...especially with the windows open. It's not super annoying, and you get used to it after awhile.

Now this whole "condom over condom" thing -- if there is a piece of rubber underneath the liner or around the liner, then it might stop the rattling. I wouldn't put it in your bed for extra protection.
