Well, the gas prices win. I give up! $3.79 a gallon is too much. I parked my truck and I bought this car for cheap. Like, $500 cheap. 95% of the time I don't need a truck anyway. So now instead of getting 13mpg, I am averaging 26mpg. Cut my fuel cost in half. So i figure that this car should pay for itself in no time. It runs very well and there aren't enough o's in smooooooooth to describe the ride! On a side note: I don't drive my truck to the filthy job-site anymore. So now I've got the truck the cleanest it has ever been. I even used Aero 303 on the floor mats. Next will be a good engine detailing. :sigh:

btw: The car is a 1995 VW Passat VR6 - leather, sunroof...I'm really starting to like this car a lot! :(

Nice! My friend has that exact car, but in black. His is the definition of lemon, but I drove it once when it was running, and holy crap, that thing drove nice. I hope you have good luck with it. :(

The front passenger side of the car was damaged in a fender bender (hood bender and headlight buster too!) Mostly all cosmetic damage. I've got it looking ok now. I did some body work with a rubber mallet and a Hi-Lift jack. Maybe someday I'll buy a hood and fender for it. But then again, it IS a $500 car.

Thanks! I bought it with 137,902miles on the odo. I've put almost 200mi on it.... so far so good. If it breaks down, I figure I can get 2 or 3 hundred dollars out of it at a junk yard. I don't think I can lose!

I have a 1971 volkswagen super beetle that I drive during the spring thru fall. It gets about 27 mpg and it lets my truck sit. It really helps on the gas and it is pretty cool seeing my onstar report saying I averaged 8 miles a day during the month. I've had it for 3 years now switching between it and whatever truck im driving and when I traded in my 98 gmc truck it just rolled over 100,000.

My truck just rolled over 8,000mi. With gas prices the way they are, it may not see 9,000mi until next year! :sigh:

500 bucks is a good deal for that car. I can't justify buying a separate car though because my truck is just about paid off. Plus I've been averaging 17.5mpg a tank. Can't complain.

Thats pretty weird, mine just rolled over 8,000mi last week. I have had my truck since august and a friend of mine who bought a new dodge ram at the same time hit 16,000 but he is thinking about getting rid of it because he hates putting gas in it. :(

I traded my 2005 d*dge w/5.7 hemi for this GMC. I thought i would get better mileage with the GMC... I thought wrong! Oh well, but I will never get rid of my truck. No matter how comfortable i get in my new VW, I feel like a TURD driving it.

Nice ride you could really have fun decking that thing out! Like racing rims, tinted windows, fart can for exhaust, spoiler or drag racing wing. Heck you might as well add some of those stick on flames to do it like the Amigo's do it!!! haha jk

I am an idiot! Nice ride by the way!

Well with gas at $4.25 in San Fran and getting close to $4 in Florida I am thinking about getting rid of my truck all together. I just got done driving a 2008 Infiniti G37s....and omg. That thing is a ****ing beast.

Well, gas prices here in GA are better than the referenced locations in this post, but they hit $3.59 a gallon this week!

My Mom-in-law passed away in Nov, and we inherited her car and dog (there are always strings attached!) So my truck has been parked for the past couple of months.

My daily commuter is now a Honda Fit! Not much to look at, but I get 33-34 mpg on my daily commute verse the 17-18 mpg I was getting from the truck on the same commute! I still have to fill-up once a week because the Fit only has a 10 gallon tank, but sinking $25 a week in gas verse $83 a week is sure a lot easier on the wallet!

Now, if I could just convince my boss to let me work 3 days a week to do my part in conserving our natural resources and dependency on foriegn oil, I'll have it made!

    • I'd change the fluid and start there.   198F is nothing for the 8L90.  They typically operate 180-200F stock.
    • Looking for help!   2019 GMC Sierra 1500 - 5.3l 4x4 8l90 61k miles - truck is in Arizona, was over 110 outside on Monday when this whole situation transpired. Never had any major issues with transmission until this point:   Truck sat outside my construction office for approx 1 hour idling before I realized, ran around the job site wrapping some things up for the day and then left. Went to get food and sat in the drive through for approx 30 minutes idling. As soon as I pull out of the drive through and onto the main road, rear tires lock up and feels like transmission fell out of the truck. Shifted to park, shut the truck off and tried again, same thing happened. Was able to reverse into parking lot (truck slammed into reverse). Let the truck sit turned off for 10 minutes before trying again, but it continued to happen. Towed truck back to my house. Highest the trans temps reached was 198.   Friday, after work I start looking into the situation. Truck sat in my driveway untouched all week. Truck is now driving like normal, transmission doesn’t get over 185 degrees when trying to heat it up. Got up to 60 multiples times with no issues, no issues accelerating, only down shifted hard into first one time at 185 degrees. Does anyone have any insight? Never through a code or a check engine light. Truck has never been used to tow either. No transmission services at this point.
    • Atlas won.   I know better, but I did it anyway. I took a compressed air line with a chuck and rubber tip and jammed it in the open EGR port. The port was clear as far as I could see, and as far as I could poke with a flexible wire, but that doesn't mean it's not clogged.   Compressed air blew back at me along with a cloud of black. Oops. I didn't have the rubber tip seated in there all the way. Jammed it up in there some more and squeezed the chuck. PSI was set to 120. Poof! It blew back at me again. Third time...pfffffttssssssspffffffsssfffffff, face full of carbon, and then, kind of a thud..and the air stopped spraying back at me. It was now exiting the exhaust with a low shhhhhh sound as it flowed through the pipe. Something broke free. I pressurized the port again, and air flowed.   Made my day.   Long story short on this problem, it's fixed. Something was really blocking the EGR passages down low, and compressed air blew it apart. I don't recommend this as who knows what debris was sent where. But it's allowed me to move forward, mentally, and onto the next problems I need to get this little S-Blazer going down the road properly again.
    • Your truck lowered, looks good. I'm happy with the stance on this. I may need the extra ground clearance given my location/situation.
