Ecm/tcm Troubles

So I’d thought I’d post here instead of plugging up our Minnesota Tune thread. I got my ECM and TCM last week. I went out Saturday to swap in the new modules. I finally figured out how to get the ECM out and I only broke 2 tabs in the process  . But of course it didn’t start so I had to go through the entire Security Relearn process. After the 4th time, it started, chugged and died. Then it wouldn’t crank over at all. Switched the modules out, same thing. Apparently this was too much for my battery, which was dead. Jumped it with her car and everything was fine. My battery was showing signs of weakness before; I think I need a new one.

Anywho, I went out last night and put the other modules in (Blackbear provided). It started fine, chugged a little bit, but stayed running. But then my CEL came on, my oil change light came on, and Service Traction Control popped up. I drove it around the block a few times and she shifted very hard. I mean it almost put my head through the windshield! My oil does need to be changed soon anyway, but the CEL light and Traction Control worried me. Is this something that’ll go away once Justin tunes it on Saturday? I assume the hard shift is because of the different TCM?

Thanks for any advice, I’m a real n00b at this tuning business.

Wow, think I may do this the night before my tune in December so that if it screws something up I won't have to drive it much. Good luck with it, keep us posted.

Nick, not sure since I only have the PCM, but email Justin or PM Jenna. That would be my best suggestion.

That is stock programming for your VIN s it should be exactly the same, with the exception of the check engine light. Pull them out and be sure tha tyou didnt bend any of the pins (the fact that your boke tabs worries me). If a pin is bent that is probably the issue.

Last Sat afternoon I too pulled my stock PCM out and replaced it with a Blackbear provided PCM for the MN meet. Everything worked fine once I did the security re-learn. No check engine lights or anything. Truck starts drives like it did with the stock PCM. I never had done this before and really was amased how easy it was. I too am learning slowly here....

Ok thanks, I will look into it. To clarify, the tabs I broke were just the plastic mounts on the truck bracket, nothing on the ECM itself.

But I will look more closely at the ECM when I get home.

Thanks alot,

Just came back up from the garage

No luck. No bent pins, all good, tight connections. Same CEL light. Same "Service Traction Control" message. Started out fine, then a few minutes into running, the "No Stabilitrack" came on, soon followed by "Service Traction Control." Truck shifted fine up until that point, FWIW.

Any advice is appreciated as I have nothing here . . .
