P0332 Knock Sensor 2002 Sierra..help !

Well, job is done. I decided to pay a professional to change the knock sensors out. When I picked up the Yukon, he told me the sensors were fine. A little puzzled, I asked what was the problem. He showed me the wiring harness and it was all chewed up!!! Looks as if a rat or something got in there and had a little lunch on those wires. I called the man I bought it from and told him about it and he said the truck sat under his carport for about 2 months without moving and after that is when the engine light came on with the sensor code. Anyway, he change the sensors out anyway and put on the new wiring harness. I have gained about 1.5 mpg over the last 3 fill ups and I can tell the difference in the "get up". Glad its over... Now time to change the oil pan gasket... ugggghhhh...

How the eff does the water get up there? I bought my truck used so i'm sure the engine was washed before I bought it, but I haven't washed the engine since. It goes through the car wash at least 4 times a week and I flew through some big puddles this week, but how does water get on top of the engine UNDER THE INTAKE MANIFOLD?!?!

Looks like I am going to pulling the intake manifold tomorrow night. UGH! Why do so many things go wrong with this truck?!

Look at the pics in this post. You'll see how the intake is designed and how it attaches only at the heads

I see that it's getting up there, I just don't understand it. I guess there's just a lot open space allowing it to splash up there. Did all the years have the foam under the intake manifold? Mine does, is that just holding water?

Great thread! Thanks to everyone that has contributed here.

I have a couple questions though. In the technical bulletin in post #4, it mentioned to not make a complete circle of RTV around the rubber seal. I just don't understand the reasoning behind this suggestion. Why wouldn't you want to make a full 360* seal around it?

Also, I read that there is a metal and a plastic option for an intake manifold gasket. Is one better or more preferred than the other? Anybody got a Felpro part number for the metal gasket?

I drove through a partially flooded road two days ago, and I just tripped the P0332 CEL. I'm assuming water somehow made it's way in there. I'll be ordering all of the parts today and will be tackling the job next weekend. This engine is unfamiliar to me as I've only owned this truck for 5 days now. I didn't think I'd be servicing it so soon, but it looks like I'm popping my cherry more quickly than I thought.

Hey guys new member here.. Joined when I searched P0332 on google and this thread popped up.

Just bought an 04 Silverado with 160,000km on it and its throwing a P0332 code. Just gathering up some my parts from rockauto.com (except the wiring harness which they don't carry) and i'll be tackling this.

Does anyone have a reccomendation as for where to get the fuel line disconnect tool? I can't seem to locate one.

So, I tripped this CEL. I cleared the code without fixing anything or replacing any parts. And I've driven 500 miles on it now without tripping the CEL again. This doesn't make any sense to me. In the past, the CEL has always come back immediately when the issue is still present. So, what could cause a temporary P0332 CEL?

Leave the fuel lines connected to the rails. Just lift the rails and injectors off the manifold and move them aside. It would also be a good time to replace the injector o-rings if they're original. Part numbers are listed in post #101.

 I've had the same problem on a 02 silverado, replaced the heads this spring (cracked) replaced the knock sensors and harness and have had cel since, I run it with code reader reading stats as I drive, light comes on and timing advance does not change, had it hokked up for 2 hrs, cel came on 3 times and timing never changed, I'm pretty good with motors, have always done all my own work, but this thing has me stumped!!!!

Make sure they are getting a good ground in the valley cover and make sure the sensors are good, sometimes they are doa. And it doesn't take much to kill a knock sensor, a sudden bump will easily do it or using a impact wrench to tighten them.

I ordered new upper and lower o-rings as per the post when I put my parts order in from rockauto. I guess i'll be taking the injectors out then!

Washed my engine, got the light.

I just replaced both sensors, cranked it up and the SES light is still on.. I guess I'll try to have it cleared at Auto Zone.. I really hope one of my new sensors is not DOA.

The light won't go out by itself unless you disconnect the battery for a while or clear it...

I tried disconnecting the battery. Maybe I didn't let it sit long enough. I'll try it again.

Edit: That did the trick. The truck would barely run though when I cranked it, I had to keep it reved up.. I guess it took a while to relearn everything.

It now has way more throttle response, runs better than ever.

Thanks

Hello.

I joined this board because of this post for the P0332.

Is there anyone that can give a good step by step on how to remove the intake? It seems some are removing the fuel rails and other arent.

thanks for all the help and info, lifesaver!
