SiiLT,

I was coming up my street yesterday and there was someone out front of their house with a 4x4 gas powered truck.  I slowed down to check it out... (about 20 mph) and he brought the thing down over the curb (great suspension).  I sped up and he took off up the street after me and I think he could've passed me if he wanted to.

Could you tell me a good place to get some info on these trucks?  I might be interested in buying a nice used one also.  All I know is that I want one...  certainly there is somewhere on the web to get a good deal.

Yes there is.  I am glad to hear you want one.  If you buy one, then trust me, you won't be dissapointed.  I suggest if you get any RC car to get the Traxxas T-Maxx.  It is the best.  You can find out info on it at http://www.traxxxas.com.  You can buy those online at a place called Tower Hobbies( http://www.towerhobbies.com)  they usualy have good prices, and deals that give you 25 bux off.  Another really good place is www.EHobbies.com  I think initially they are more expensive, but I have heard somewhere that you can go to www.ebates.com and get a code that will give you something like 40% off www.ehobbies.com.  I don't know if this is true but I can check it out.  If you interested in getting a gas off-road then there are quite a few options you have.  Do you want all out off-road like a monster truck?  or do you want something that can go off-road but would be fast, they cal them stadium trucks.  Goto http://www.MaxxTraxx.com(hardcore sucks right now) to get some good info, then in a couple of days I am going to be opening a new site.  http://www.maxxforum.net  Hope this helps, if you have any more questions I would be glad to answer them for you.

well if you dont want a 4x4 one, i had a couple 2wd stadium trucks for sale.. fast little trucks, good for racing or  just bashing around.

RC10GT

and a Schumacher nitro storm 2000

both 1/10th scale and gas

thought i'd try anyways.

i'll have to post pics of my pride and joy. since its got a silverado body it'll work great here.

Gas or Electric??? I like the idea of gas but I'm guessing more maintenance and definatly more noise.  Electric would be quieter but run time can't be real long and then you have recharge time...

Do I need to get 4x4?  You certainly wouldn't take these things into the mud!!!

What about speed??? Is either one better???

I could see spending ? -? if everything is included.  That is not a problem... but I don't know which way to go.

Are there quiet mufflers that can be put on a gas powered RC vehicle?

Thanks

well if you want speed and run time, gas is the only way to do. if you run mainly on street and a little off road and want something fast , stadium is the way to go. if your into slower speeds but want to try and do stuff like rock crawling a 4x4 might be better suited. you can get some pipes that'll make it quieter, but you'll lose power,  like a stock tmaxx pipe is fairly quiet.

the 2 trucks i'm trying to sell need controllers and receivers 1 also needs a throttle/brake servo.  but i dont think your interested in them.

Nitro r/cs require a little bit more in work, you have to do clean up, tuning the engine every once and a while.  electric you really dont have to, but your battery packs take a lot of care, you have to charge them right and discharge them. for the ammount of time you have to do speical stuff for batteries you could run a nitro a few times. tho electric still has its place, like in doors, or climbing or pulling.

Here's the deal,

I drove over to the hobbie shop (in my Silverado of course), and talked to the guy for about 45 minutes.  Now I'm torn between a "stadium" type monster truck, the DuraTrax Maximum MT "pro" or the Traxxas Tmaxx.

The MT "pro" is a whole lot better than the MT. and I like the easy to adjust coil over shocks that with a couple of turns you can tighten up the springs for better rebound.  I don't like the fact that there is no brakes or reverse...  (do I need them?)

On the other hand the Tmaxx is awsome!!!  It has 4WD and 8 shocks although the adjustabillity isn't that great...  (Shims).   It also has forward and reverse plus a pretty good size disc brake.  Electric start is probably a plus but I'm not too sure about that...

The Tmaxx is slower of course.... maybe 30 mph versus 40 mph for the MT Pro.  That's not too big of a deal I don't think... 30 mph is pretty darn fast,  40 mph is wickedly fast!!!

What about all those extra parts with the 4X4???  I'll only run it once or twice a week.  Should I worry about the complexity of such an awesome beast??? Or should I buy the MT Pro that will probably do almost evrything I want for a little less money???

? for the MT pro or ? for the Tmaxx.  plus ? for the Silverado body!!!  LOL

Another truck you might also want to consider is the Ofna Monster Pirate.  It is also a very nice truck.  Your going to have to decide whether you want a monster type truck or a stadium truck.  Kinda sounds like your leaning on the monster truck side.  The T-Maxx may look confusing, but it isn't bad.  There should be brakes on all of the models.  Reverse is rare on a gas truck.  I think only the T-Maxx has it.  I had to make the same decision as you and I picked the T-Maxx.  I am glad, it hauls butt.  I just bought a new engine for it and from what I hear it should bring the thing up and beyond 40 mph.  Addressing the adjustability issue, are you talking about the shocks?  You shouldn't need to do much adjusting, or fine tuning to your rc cars unless you are racing them.  If your just going to screw around with them in your yard then general adjustments to the suspension and stearing are no prob.  Have you ruled out electric versions?  BTW, I know a lot of people insist that you buy from a local hobby store, and I probably should have because they are very helpful when it comes to taking car of your machine, but... you can get a Maxx for about 350 bux on towerhobbies.com , maybe even cheaper on ehobbies.com .

I hope this helps.  If i seem biast towards the T-Maxx I am, they rule!  A great place to get info is from a magazine.  The one I get is RC Car Action(www.rccaraction.com )  Go to their web site and search it for t-maxx stuff.

i think a couple kyosho trucks has reverse too, but i wouldnt buy them.  if you really want a 4x4 monster truck  to just bash around, tmaxx would be a good way to go, i had one for a while but ended up selling it for something i'm still waiting to post a picture of.

the MP is kind of cool, except no slipper clutch, and stock its very stiff on the suspension. but for bashing around and first time r/c i would say you'd be beter off with something with a slipper clutch (tmaxx) since it'll help it take a little more abuse.

I know the whole "support local stores" thing is abound but heres what i can find online.

http://www.towerhobbies.com

T-Maxx=?.99  # LXPW87**

Charger=?.99 #LXJC33

Battery=?.99 #LXJA83

Fuel Bottle=?.99 # LXD531

I can go on, but i think you get the jist. Try online to get some better pricing if you'd like. Now you do have to pay shipping, so it may not always be the best alternative. The T-maxx rocks, you won't be dissapointed. That think will go over ANYTHING. I personaly like electric better, so that why i got the E-Maxx. One thing on the T-Maxx though, follow the directions on breaking-in the engine to a Tee. Be really conservative. A properly broken-in engine will last possibly years. An engine that was not broken-in right, only will last a few months.

well if you have the cash to burn, ppl say support your LHS, specially if they have a track. or if your on a tight budget you can normally save a little money ordering on-line even with shipping. from towerhobbies, ehobbies, ace-hobbies. etc etc etc.

Since we will be buying 2 trucks I may call Boardman Hobby and make them an offer.  The biggest problem is that the Tmaxx is in high demand and he may not want to budge on the price very much.  I think I'll offer him ?.00 for both trucks with this equipment:

2 Tmaxx's

2 batteries

2 chargers

2 1 gallon bottles of fuel

2 fuel bottles

4 glow plugs

2 bodies

His list price for this setup would be ?.98 (tax included).  So I am asking for about 8% discount.  Does this seem fair?

Thanks
