Yesterday on my way home, I get a phone call from my dad. He tells me that one of our 9 dogs is dead. Obviously I didn't believe him, but alas it's true. We don't know what happened to him. He was only about 2 years old, and the most laid-back dog I have ever had. My dad found him in the backyard, apparently he hemmoraged out ( I think that's how you spell it). I hope that Robert can maybe enlighten me as to what might have happened. He was fine yesterday morning, but dead a few hours later. We have no clue if he was poisoned, or ate something that was poisoned (rat or bird). It has been about 15 years since I have lost a pet, and it really sucks. My mom on the other hand is devastated, I don't know what to do to help her. Of all the dogs, I think he was one of the favorites. I'm not the kind of guy that cries, but I almost did when my mom did. Man my day sucked yesterday.

Sorry to hear about the loss. I know it can be tough. They are family. I see Robert is chiming in soon

I'm sorry man. I wish I had some inspiring words for you, but when situations like this there really isn't anything anyone can say except for my thoughts and prayers are with you. It just sucks.

As far as shedding light on the situation, you have already mentioned the differential that would be at the very top of my list for that young of dog...Rat poison.

After that I would be considering an Immune mediated disease, tick transmitted disease, or von Willebrand Disease. A heat stroke is possible, but unlikely.

I wish I could help more. I would by all means search for any rat poison around, because for sudden death from hemorrhage like that it is the most likely scenario.

Its weird tho Robert cause, I figured that the other dogs would have gotten in to it too. My dad looked all over the backyard, which isn't that big cause of the pool, and didnt see anything at all. No rat pieces, bird pieces, no rat poison remnants, nothing. If it was poison, would the dog have vomited any? I didnt see the dog before he was buried, but my dad said there ws nothing around his mouth, no vomit, no blood, just the ground and his hind end covered in blood. Man this is depressing.

Sorry to hear about that Felix. I get very emotional when it comes to losing a pet. I was watching E-Vet Interns last night and a Great Dane puppy got into some Rat Poison and they couldn't save him. It really touched me. May your dog RIP.

wow... 9 dogs in one yard?

I'm sorry to hear about the loss. It wouldn't have mattered if there were 40 of them. You never want to see one go.

That really sucks, I tend to get really attached to dogs. I don't have any myself, but I'm really close to my parents' dog and half (heeler and lab/german shepard mix), my friends german shepard, and my girlfriends golden retriever. They're great dogs and its gonna suck when any of them go. The lab/german shepard mix is my parents' neighbors' but they pretty much abandoned him, never feeding him or giving him any attention so he's always in my parents' yard(few people have fences in that neighborhood). How someone can ignore a dog that great is beyond me. Anyways...back on subject, sorry about your loss. I know there's lots of people that will say "it's just a dog" but they don't realize that dogs actually become part of the family.

Yeppers 9, well 8 now. Sophie (mine) is a lab/chow mix, curly was a dachsund, Rosie is also a dachsund, Pepper is a chihuahua, cha-cha is a chihuahua, Dallas and Dottie are both dachhuahuas (dachsund/chihuahua mix, kids of Pepper and Rosie) Shelby is a chihuahua, and Max is a mutt. But they have their own "room" in the house too. An enclosed heated/cooled patio. Doggie door to the outside, and even their own couch and recliner.

One thing that makes this worse is that my dog has been searching for Curly, cause that always "wrestled" together.

Damnit, I am tearing up now.

I remember when my dog, Buck, left us. It was Easter Sunday, 2000. That's hard on a guy, no matter how old you are. It sounds like you guys gave him a good and full life.

I had an Irish Setter for 18 yrs. I was there when he was born, was with him when I had him put down. Went everywhere with me just about. Lots of good times and great memories. Like a son to me. He's been gone about 9 yrs now. I still miss him. Our animal friends help and teach us so much.

Edit: Now I'm tearing up! Damnit. :nonod::D

Sorry to hear about your dog, those are strange circumstances, I`ve lost a few labs of old age and its hard even when you know their gonna go, no notice would be hard....
