Debadging 09 Tailgate

OK, this I'm sure is a no brainer, but....

I want to remove the bowtie from the tailgate, read on another post that is just adhesive taped. I tried pulling, tugging, rotating some, but it just barely budged.

What is your preferred technique physically, or is there solvent that safe to facilitate it??? ie goo gone prior to prying? Obviously, I'm just trying to not goober it up in the process, fairly mechanically inclined, but have done the "DOH!!!" a few times...

Fishing line or heavy floss. Take your time and work it behind the emblem to get it to come off.

WD-40, spray it and let it soak in, will not hurt the paint

I agree, but use a hair dryer first to heat it up some. It doesn't have to get real hot, just a little warm.

 

Also should add that I use Goo Gone to clean up any glue residue left behind. Works great and doesn't harm the paint.

Also give it some heat from a heat gun or hair dryer dont go nuts with it but warm it up some. The glue will become easier to work with. Once you peel it off you can move to the chicklets and other badges they tack onto the truck. In fact start with the chicklet if you mess up its a smaller area

 

Get some Goo-Gone and go over the are if you like. I havent tried the wd-40 thing but I know it does remove adhesives. I used it to get the sticker off a wrench the other day and it did a fantastic job.

Use an air chisel. No not really. It helps to heat it up just to soften the adhesive and if you’re using fishing line or dental floss it helps to have another set of hands. Get someone to help pull off the emblem gently as you work your line.

Letting the goo gone set up and break down the adhesive helps with removal.

Like mentioned above, I heated my emblems with a heat gun (on lowest setting), used fishing line to "saw" through the adhesive, and finished with 3M adhesive remover. I would like to try the 3M eraser wheel sometime...I saw it used on Trucks! and it looked slick.

Wow guys good tips I think I am going to try and debadge, wash, claybar, polish, and wax tomorrow it suspose to be around 65 outside and little to no wind any estimates of time on these activities, should this be measured by the case or just by normal standard time....lol

I actually did this today! Chicklet, lettering, and trim level badges removed. Goo Gone and a plastic company ID card was all I used! I did leave the bow tie on the tail gate though! Now I just have to update my sig picture!

I used a plastic gatoride lid to scrape with, hahaha!
