You've heard of Chevrolet, right? You know -- that struggling automaker underneath the General Motors umbrella? For those who've long given up their ties to muscle cars in favor of the kid-friendly minivan or Earth-friendly hybrid, you may not even know that a revitalized Camaro is just around the bend. Based on some hands-on time with a production vehicle at an undisclosed dealer, Microsoft's Zune integrates perfectly into the sound system, and said integration is supposedly a standard feature on the car. What's more is that we're told some 27 other GM models will also include Zune support from the factory as they launch in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia through 2011, though details beyond that are scant. Hope they cooked in support for the Zune HD, ya dig?

Hopefully that is in lieu of iPod support and not in addition to it.

Fixed!

IMO, the Zune software is about 100x better than the ipod. The quality of the music is just better, period. We had a zune hooked up to my truck (through the earphone jack), and its quality was way better than the ipod we had hooked up through the ipod jack (aftermarket stereo and hookups). Plus the video playback is way better. The controls on the ipod are the only thing better. And maybe the size...

Mostly, I'm just tired of everything being ithis and ithat. Pretty soon people are gonna have to start wearing shirts that say istupid...

i like my ipod but the amount of people that own a ipod over a zune is like 20-1... i dont know why they would choose zune, microsoft must have paid some big $$$

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking.

I've got 3 Zune's in my household, I hate the fact that you can't hook it up to the vehicles like the ipods. Carneyman, did you use a double male cable and just plug it into the headphone jack?

The Zune service costs me about $48 for 3 months, I can download and play as many songs as I want for that fee. Also get 10 free songs per month that I can keep. So really it costs me $5 a month (since they give you 10) I not a follow the leader kind of guy so the Zune fits my style. It won't level a picture but I've got levels for that. I have a 120gig, 80gig and a 8gig.

Nope -- I think he's just saying that there are WAY better mp3 players out there. For great sound and a ton more features (at less cost) check out Creative, Sansa, Dane-Elec, or Meizu. They all come with lower cost, better sound quality, drag-and-drop files (no proprietary software, and they can be used as a portable flash drive), FM receiver, the ability to record directly from FM, most come with an external mic to record sound bites or digital messages, and many come with replaceable batteries. Add Rockbox to most of them and you'll never look at Apple or MicroSoft again.

I will admit that iPod controls the personal mp3 player category, but you are doing yourself a HUGE disservice if you buy an ipod or Zune without shopping around. I'm not trying to turn this thread into a war, just letting fellow board members know how they can do better and save some money at the same time.

I understood what he meant. I was just joking with him.

But, FYI, iPods can be used as portable storage devices as well and if you have any mechanical ability at all, the batteries can be changed.

I wrote an email to Google when they started calling the custom google homepage, "iGoogle." I told them I was tired of all this "iNonsense" and not all internet users are teenage girls.

They said they "really appreciate your thoughtful feedback about our new name, and we'll keep it in mind as we work to improve the page."

I've never liked Apple anything, so we bought a Creative Zen a few years ago. It was 32gb, and maybe 1/2 of the price of the comparable iPod. They only downfall is the lack of the accessories, due to the sheer volume of iPods out there. My life would have been easier if I'd just have conformed. . . er uh . . . was an individual and bought an iPod like everyone else. :dunno:

No. I've got a Pioneer head unit, and it has a plug in the back that hooks up to a bundle of about 5 different sound inputs. It has the ipod hook up, the rca stereo cables, a headphone jack, and something else. I didn't even bother with the zune service. I just put all my cd's on it and a couple of movies that I watch at work. Oh yeah, and a whole lot of audio books. I've got the 30 gb, and I'll never listen to it all in a week.

    • On the subject of OLM, Gm's OLM tool may be more "informed" than others brands. I recall OLM's in mid-2000's Chrysler products literally counting down a set number of miles. That's all the OLM appeared to be.    I would actually expect GM to be able to explain the parameters that their OLM takes into account from a high level. No, I would not expect them to disclose their software coding or data analysis around their parameters.   So we're talking about two different topics, so to continue the subject on the other one, I'd be curious to know how much "standard particulate matter" in fresh oil is able to be filtered at first start by a fresh oil filter. How much particulate matter is enough to "matter"?   I.e. how much of a "lever" do we think this equates to (variability in particulate content, in fresh oils, between different makes/brands, some which filter less, and some that filter more).   We can say that more particles = more wear = shorter engine life as a logical statement and use that data with a little marketing to scare people into selecting a more refined/filtered oil. Using a similie, is this like deciding to forego two alcoholic drinks in a lifetime because we're worried about the potential impact on lifespan? Are there numbers which translate the ISO test results into a quantifiable increase in wear for a given engine/use case?
    • I'm pretty sure it doesn't actually recalibrate the speedometer it just changes the wheel speed sensor inputs to the computer. The truck still thinks it has stock tires.
    • I apologize, I missed this post, at risk of going off CURRENT TOPIC.   I'm not saying it is BS, I'm questioning how much information is being held back. GM is NOT going to spell out exactly every parameter in the algorithm. Liability, intellectual property, etc.    I'm not naive enough to believe that it is as simple as revolutions, coolant temperature, miles, time; are you?    I don't do irrational either, and boiling the OLM down to four simple values that I could code in an afternoon (I'm not a coder) is irrational - unless it suits your agenda to ignore it.
    • Chris 21 I appreciate your constructive response. !!  😉😉😉   The 6.6 is gas.  Correct me if I’m wrong but by recalibrating the speedo you’re correcting the shift points of the transmission on these trucks.?.
    • That is a huge misconception.     Bigger does not always equal safer.  Modifying does not make it safer either, with exceptions.   Think of this.  Your truck in stock form is capable of emergency maneuvers, proper stopping distances, its handling is designed around the factory wheel/tire packages, etc.   37s and a lift?  Now you've affected your braking distances, handling and ride control.  You've raised your center of gravity higher.  Your front visibility is now obstructed more than stock, same for your rear.  Does it look cooler?  Yes.  Does it now work as good as it did from factory on road?  NO.       As for my mention of exceptions?  Say you had a sedan or crossover.  They typically come with all season tires.  If you swap out for a performance all season or a summer tire, you improve your car by lowering its stopping distance (better braking because of traction) and improve the handling (regular and emergency) of the vehicle.  That is an actually improving modification.  My old 2019 LD 1500, I ran UHP all season tires on 20in wheels in a factory offered size.  It improved all aspects of how it drove over the Duratracs it came with from the factory in the stock 18" tire.
