This is one of those moments where I'm thankful I don't have keyless entry...but they'd probably just smash my window, eh?

Interesting to know how they cracked the keyless entry system. Both the fob and vehicle have an identical pseudo-random number generator. They would need to know that somehow... unless they just bombard all vehicles with the billions of rolling numbers in hope that one will work somewhere in the parking lot.

My guess too.

Why cant these criminals use there knowledge for good?

If they've figured out the random number generator and what the seed value is, then they can use a device to capture the code as someone uses a keyfob to lock their doors. Then they can calculate what the next value is to unlock the doors.

Instead of going through all that trouble just to break into one or two cars, why not sell the technology on the black market and make much more?

Uh oh, apparently I am very smart or I have a criminal mind... :(:sigh:

Or maybe thecriminals are the stupid ones? They'll get caught eventually..

Maybe these are just the guys who bought the technology off the black market to break into cars. The guy that actually figured it out is.......This guy!

And even a little less hi-tech.... My wife had her keys stolen from her jacket pocket at work, with a dozen keys on the ring and the GM key fob for her Impala..... it appears that someone went through the parking lot with the fob trying to identify which was her car.... TROUBLE WAS THAT THE BATTERY IN THE FOB HAD BEEN DEAD FOR A FEW MONTHS AND I HAD NOT REPLACED IT FOR HER.... if the fob was working, the car would be long gone now ... when they gave up they just threw the keys at the front door of the office building ... at least she got them back....

And you've never done anything she's asked again . . . :(
