Dl8 To Dl3 On 09 Silverado

In the excitement to buy a new truck I bought a 09 Silverado with DL8 mirrors ( heated and pwr adjust). My 05 had the DL3 and I miss the signal more than I thought I would. After reading so much over the last week I'm a bit lost. I know it has been done on earlier years but have started reading that some 09s are hard wired and some have a door module. Is there a way to tell without the TechII ? I'm only interested in the power adjust, heat and signal. NOT the power fold. Is the hard wire/door module a non issue if I don't want the power fold ? Thanks for any help !

several threads on this on the internet

first problem is you have to change the drivers side switch as it has the module built into it

second problem is you need it added to the system and the dealers will not do it if the truck was not ordered with it

third problem is I am not sure if I am remembering that correctly, late at night ready to go home from work

If you dont want the power fold, then you dont need the "switch". DL3 mirrors have 2 plugs, and the one with the heat, adjust, and signal will plug right into you "nonswitch" controller. The other plug will just tuck into the door panel. There are also factory looking aftermarkets mirrors with one plug that have the signal too for much cheaper than the factory dl3 mirrors. I bought one dl3 from ebay and then a signal lens assembly for the other side and added the wiring myself. easy peasy. If you want fold, you need the door module (which is actually the switch that has the fold button) and trim bezel that matches. New ones must be programmed, and the dealer may not cooperate. Used ones come preprogrammed, if you can find one, but you will not have the tilt feature when you put it in reverse.

One more thing - even if you want to switch to DL3 mirrors, you may not have the wiring in the doors to support doing so. Not sure which ones, if any have this already.

I don't agree with most of the replies, I did this exact modification. I simply installed the mirror glass from the signal mirror to the regular mirror housing added swapped the signal mirror harness to the regular mirror housing, and eliminated the unused wires (for the power fold and dim portion) plugged into my truck and presto. The plug for power adjust heat and signal is the same, there is an additional plug/harness for power fold and dimming.

This mod, should not be a big deal to do. That is only adding SIGNALS, nothing else.

Andy - I agree that this is no big deal. What do you not agree with about my replies specifically? I too swapped mirror glass from one mirror and put a dl3 mirror on the other side. My truck did not have the wiring to support the fold feature, but I do have the other features provided by the one connector that is the same. My one dl3 has a plug that is not used, and the one that I added the glass and wire to just has the one plug.
