Adding Cruise Control...

Has anyone looked into adding cruise to a truck that didn't come with it? I know I would need the "stick" and the module, but after that I am clueless. Any idea's on the subject?

If your adding it to your 2000, yes it can but its called a "snow cone" cruise set-up. I had one added to my 2001 Silverado WT back in 2002. The control is not on the steering wheel or turn signal, but a seperate switch mounted to the steering column. Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I will look into that.

Did this on my '00 Stepside reg. cab. All i did was get the box and cable under the hood. The harness is already there with a cap over the plug. Snap it together and bolt that down. Then you will have to put in a new multifunction switch. That's the hardest part. Like i said, i did this on my 2000 Silverado. Same year as yours. It's a snap, took me an hour and $100 in parts from a donar at a local yard.~Cole~

SO I will need the stick (multiswitch) and the cable?

yep. if ur switch doesn't have the cruise buttons then you will need one. The box and cable under the hood come as one peice outta the truck. So if you go and pull them from a donar you will see how it routes and hooks up. The multifunction switch on mine had 2 extra green wires running under the dash that my truck didn't have. The didn't need to be hooked up on mine. It had the normal plugs and then the 2 greens seperate. They should only need to be hooked up if you have them existing in yours which i highly doubt you do. Everything should work when your done with no programming of any kind. Your cluster should even be prewired with a CRUISE light.

Got the parts finally. Only problem is they came from a 5.3 truck and mine is a 4.3 V6. I can see some obvious problems with that.

Several years ago I purchased a GM multi function switch and installed on my 03. Plugged it in, bingo cruise control!

Funny thing was that I had talked to a GM service tech. He said the module would need to be programed in order for the switch to operate. WRONG!

Did you dissassemble the stick itself or how did you remove and reinstall it?

If a non cruise control truck gets cruise merely by adding the multi function switch, it is drive by wire since no servo is required.

When did they go drive by wire?

2004 and up on the gassers, 94 and up on the diesels. I love my drive by wire.
