Cant Remove Fill Plug!

Im trying to change the rear diff fluid in my 1997 k1500. Stuipidly...i already took the cover off and drained all the fluid. Now i cant get the fill plug off to fill it back up! Anyone got any advice that could help?!?!?! Thanks

ive already tried a ratchet, an impact gun, and a breaker bar. This sucks. Can you explain the air chisel method? haha

have you sprayed it with some Break free

Time for heat. Heat the plug up cherry red, and spray it with some cold water. Do this a few times. Use PB blaster the last couple of times. It should come right out.

I'd try some kind of spray first, WD40, Liquid Wrench, etc... Maybe tap it with a hammer a few times. As long as its not stripped put a piece of pipe on the end of your ratchet, however long you can fit. If none of that works you could try some heat...

Another thing the heat/cold water does is temper the plug. Makes it less likely to strip out.

i FINALLY got it! I held the impact gun on there for a long time and it finally started to break free. I had to get a new fill plug though because it was pretty much stripped out. lol. Thanks for all of your replies!

That happened to me on an 83 K2500. My Dad had to weld a nut on it to get it out. As soon as we got it out, we put a male plug in. Never a problem again!!

The plug is in the cast iron center section. The key would be to heat it as quickly as possible, to minimize heat soaking the pumpkin. But that cast iron is much tougher than an aluminum Tcase for example.

Yeah, put a little teflon tape on it and don't tighten the hell out of it. It won't go anywhere and won't leak if you tighten it only moderately.
