Installing 6x9 Speakers...

Howdy all. Newbie here. Just purchased an 01 Sierra SLT extended cab on Saturday and a few of the speakers are blown. I was wondering if it's possible, and if anyone has installed 6x9's, and if so what problems may have been encountered while doing so. I did this once in a 2000 ranger, but want to make sure it's doable before getting into it. Thanks all.

It should be possible, but you'll need to do some creative trimming to the current mounting locations to get them to fit. You may also need to be careful of depth.

I would think you should be able to fit them under the arm rests in the rear doors. I replaced my stock 4x6's with 2 way Infinity's and even that made a huge change. I've been toying with mounting a sub in the one side as it's huge in there and mine is only a 3 door though I'm not sure of 2 things.

A) if there is enough room in there and

B) whether or not I want to stare at a sub when I open the other side door.

I've always liked subs that are hidden and there just isn't a lot of room for those in these trucks. (( I prefer the under rear seat storage))

Yeah....depth is a concern...especially in the front doors seeing as I'd like the windows to still function properly. It looks like there is enough room through that screen in the door as far as size goes but yeah...the depth. Major concern. Maybe I'll leave the 6's up front and put the 6x9's in back...hrm...

Definitly leave the door speakers as 6 1/2s... If you want to upgrade in the doors do a component set. I prefer Infinty perfects but they are pricey, but will sound better then any 6x9 you can find. And pretty much any stereo manufacture make a shallow mounting depth speaker. JBL an Polk i know do off the top of my head. And you can fit 6x9s in the extended cab speaker holes with some trimming obviously i have seen it done. Good Luck

In my 2000 Z71, I've got 6 1/2" (front) and 4"x6" (rear) Infinity's with a 10" sub under the rear seat, and I can't imagine needing or wanting anything else. I think the stock size with a quality speaker is too easy, and sounds awesome to think about chopping into my truck.

Well, after much debate I decided to just stick with the OEM sizes. It all started by me finding a pair of infinity reference component systems on ebay for 62.50 each. My father in law has a 2k silverado and has been whining about how his entire stereo is shot for over a year, so I figured one set for me, one for him. I then found a set of infinity reference 4x6's and got two of them. He is gonna buy the decks. I have two 12's in a car box from years ago and a dead amp....I'm thinking one sub and an amp and I'll be golden....well, plus a box too. Thanks for all the help all. Now I've just gotta figure out how I'm gonna hook up my OBA and the air horns.

Has anyone actually put 6x9s in their extended cab yet? I've been thinking about doing it with some Kenwoods but wanted to see if anyone had success yet.

I would think that a high quality stock sized speaker would be enough without dealing with modifying...

I just installed some 6x9s in the rear of my 06 silverado above the cup holder. It was a pretty tight fit but I made it work.
