My gmt900 is a dog off the line

Got a 2008 GMC Sierra Z71 All Terrain ext cab about 6 weeks ago. Traded my 2001 Silverado Z71 ext cab. Both have 3.73 gears both 5.3L. My gmt 800 with 285 BFG all terrains could shred the tires and my Sierra can't even chirp the tires. What's the deal? Scared to make a quick turn infront of on coming traffic as it is as fast as grampas 78' buick lol.

Torque management

Sad, but true. I'm pretty curious how beastly my 6.2 would be with no TM

Ditto on the blackbear tune. GM added a lot of torque management to prevent wheel spin from off the line as it is hard on the transmission and drivetrain. GM wants these trucks to last and to be made to work. I had an 05 Sierra with the 5.3L and it certainly seemed more peppy then the 07 Sierra with the 5.3L but when I ran the numbers at the track the quarter mile times were not too far off.

Strange that my '11 GMC is much "peppier" than either our previous 5.3 2002 Yukon or 5.7 1998 Silverado. However I don't make a habit of trying to do burnouts in the truck.

I'm almost 60, but I still love the burn out. My 4.8 '01 would do one with just a stab of the gas, no brake. My '10 4.8, no way. It really wakes up at about 3K RPM though.

I posted this in another section but, it applies here too.

I had a 2001 2500 HD before my current 09 1500. One of the reasons
you have different throttle response is your old 2001 like my 2001 had a
cable conecting the throttle and the throttle body if you will. Now
however with the Torque Management they built into the newer trucks
everything has to go thru a computer electronically. So even though it's
only fractions of a second that the response is between pressing the
pedal and actually seeing results it does seem like longer. No more
instant response like a cable was. I did have my truck tuned by
Blackbear with a much better response time. I've been very satisfied
with the results so far.

The lag isn't a direct product of the DBW throttle. Those signals are traveling at the speed of light, that's not your delay. It's programmed in to not open the throttle blade as fast as you could with a cable throttle. The BB tune cured this on my truck.

I felt the same way when I got my '09. It's not slow, but the factory tuning just doesn't let it accelerate like you'd think it would. IF your engine air filter, MAF sensor, and fuel pump are OK and your brakes aren't dragging, try a tank of some good premium gas with a couple of bottles of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. Other than that, you're gonna have to get a BlackBear tune or a supercharger from Edelbrock or trade up to a 6.2L :driving:

Techron is great stuff without a doubt and if you fill up all the time at Chevron you get it in your gasoline. Also, if you consistently using a top tier fuel, you really won't see any bennefits from running Techron or BG44K (same stuff as Techron, in fact it is licensed by Chevron for BG to use) Top Tier fuels tend to have the right amount of detergents and cleaners in there to keep the fuel system clean for the most part.

Unfortunately, there are no Chevron stations in this state, so I use the Techron fuel system cleaner as recommended in my Silverado's owner's manual. (Actually it says to use the GM Fuel System Cleaner, which is Chevron Techron with a GM label.) The only Top Tier stations around here are about 40 different Phillips 66 stations, and my truck runs consistently better on BP gas, which was not listed as Top Tier. Go figure. Another annoying thing in this state is that the gas stations are no longer required to post the ethanol percentage they are selling (big corn farmer lobbying here) , so you don't know if you're getting 100% gasoline or 10% ethanol or what. And almost all of the 1/2-ton trucks sold here are flex-fuel but E-85 availability is almost non-existent. :dunno: Gotta love the government. Or not.

It's not torque management either....... Torque management is only felt during transmission shifts. Going wide open from a dead stop is limited more by the traction control system ( which still intervenes even off) and abuse management through torque limitation. Add in pathetic timing and fuel curves and you get a massive turd to drive.

The DBW versus cable comment is completely incorrect. You cannot tell the difference if the vehicle is tuned and the lag in acceleration is not because of the DBW.... it's just a value modified by whatever limiter is active at that point.
