My gmt900 is a dog off the line

I'm almost 60, but I still love the burn out. My 4.8 '01 would do one with just a stab of the gas, no brake. My '10 4.8, no way. It really wakes up at about 3K RPM though.

idk what kind of 4.8 you are driving but my 2003 4.8 will not spin the tires even on the brake

I had a 4.8L W/T GMC, reg cab 2WD and could spin the back tires a little before the G-80 rear diff kicked in. It was also how I blew up the G-80, by trying to do burn outs too much :D Thankfully it was a work owned truck.

Have a 3600 stall (2.5 STR (preferred)) installed, get a tune, install a shift kit, delete the TM, AND AWAY YOU GO :)

5.13 gears and 26 inch tall tires with a 4000 stall...... then a 4.8 can light the tires up. Or add an appropriate size turbo and boost the hell out of it..... then they make power.

Interesting. It would do it effortlessly. I think sometimes the tires make a big difference. Other ones I have test driven in the past were all different (yes, I always attempt it on a test drive). One 4.8 short box standard cab was a real smoker, and another truck with a 5.3 wouldn't even chirp the tires with a brake stand. I had a '68 Chevelle SS back in the day with over sized tires, and you could smell the rubber inside the car. I finally replaced the tires and after that it wouldn't smoke them at all. It would just lay about 10 footers and go.

Well I really don't care to do burn outs but when a japanese car, f150 or ram pull up beside me I would like to pull ahead of them of the line. I feel embarrassed when i can't even pull a s10 off the line then the kid shoots me the finger. People for some reason want to race these trucks at a light. Not that I would always bite. But some times you want to put people in there place. lol

Hahahaha, how responsible!

Next I'll start a thread on how I want to so badly do burn outs and still get 21 mpg…

A very valid point, my 2001 Z28 (Sara) was averaging 23 mpg stock (1600 stall, 3.23:1 (gu5) rear end gears), when I went with a 3k stall (yank 98% efficiency) and 3.73:1 rear end gears, my mpg dropped to 19 mpg.

I had Sara tuned on a dyno, and my rear wheel horsepower dropped from 313 to 298, however my torque increased from 303 to 345 (365 out of first), both taken @ redline (5700 rpm) WOT.

My top end speed dropped from 151 (stock) to 141 (modified), however my 1/4 mile time decreased from 14.1 to 13.3 seconds.

Speaking totally from my point of view, I would rather gain the speed in the lower end, as I do not plan to drive either 151 or 141 mph.

I'm not concerned with either burning out right off the line or reaching speeds of 100+ mph, sometimes when entering the interstate I'll floor when it's appropriate, but that's about it…

Like allterriansierra said sometimes folks want to race right off the line, why? Well that's beyond me…

JMHO, racing on the city streets is very irresponsible, and dangerous. I can not tell you how many times idiots want to race me when I am driving Sara (01 Z28). I know what the vehicle is capable of doing, and I do not have to "prove it" to anyone. Soooooo when I have my windows rolled down, and decline to race, I get insults and bantering, however @ my stage of life (65 yrs old) I just shrug it off and go on my way.

There is not a week that goes by that I read in the newspapers that someone got killed in a car race. KEEP IT ON THE TRACK!!!

Ok gents calm down. This is being taken the wrong way. I agree with keep it on the track as I have a 11.70 ET Z28 Camaro. All I am saying is I would of liked for these trucks to have a little more pep off the line. I thought I was upgrading when I traded my 2001 Silverado for my current 2008 Sierra. Both have 5.3L and 3:73 gears.

Just apply some of your modifications you made to your 11 sec Camaro (to your truck), and I am sure you will achieve your goal.

Well I really don't have any desire to heavily modify my truck. Once again since you did not understand my post I will make it clear one more time.

I am just stating that my older gmt800 was more peppy off the line then my current gmt900. I understand GM applied more torque managment to make the trucks last longer. My point is with all the new technology thats out there GM couldn't beef up the trans and rearend to handle the increase in power and still give the truck longevity. Just disappointed that's all. Ford and Dodge have figured it out. I have been I GM guy all my life and was hoping for a little better. The 5.3L makes plenty of power its a shame its being held back by TM. I am considering a BB tune.

Don't consider it do it. It livened up my (both) 6.2.

Im putting off the BB tune, simply because of the warranty thing. Last thing I want is the GM techs to say they wont honor it, due to a tune. I'd love to get rid of the dogginess of my 6.2 as well. Drives me nuts. Im all paranoid about this counter thing though, that indicates whether things have been modified.
