OEM Tires (Goodyear SR-A)

I bought my 2014 Sierra CC SLT end of September and I just noticed something that bugs the hell out of me.

The truck has Goodyear SR-A (P275/55R20) tires on it. Which from all the reviews seems to be a really terrible tire.

The problem is on the factory window sticker and all other documentation for the truck I have, I have the optional $250 P275/55/R20 All-Terrain tire option listed.

No where on Goodyears site or anywhere are the Goodyear SR-A tires listed as All-Terrain, because they're not. They are listed as 'Highway All-Season'.

After driving on all the snow we got on the weekend, I'm inclined to agree these are terrible tires in the snow.

I even looked up the other truck I test drove before the one I bought, and sure enough it had the all terrain option on the sticker as well but had the SR-A's on it.

Does anyone know what the hell is going on here? How is GM putting the wrong tires on these trucks and getting away with it?

I just emailed my salesmen at the dealer about getting this recitified so I'll update the progress on that.

If I recall, there was another member who got their dealer to install a set of Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos for this exact same reason.

I wish I would have noticed this at the same time of taking delivery I would have made a fuss about it as well.

Good luck.

I'm with you there. Where was this useful knowledge last year? I just saw the new truck and said .. ooo shiny.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I only have 600 km's on the truck so there isn't really any wear on them so I'm going to insist on new All-Terrains or worst case a $250 refund.

Where in Sask are you from soltys? I'm in Saskatoon.

I think they are trying to pass the all-weather the same as all-terrain. I didn't see any trucks with upgraded tires from the Goodyear SRA's at the dealership or any of the GMC All Terrain's that I was looking at. I noticed that I didn't like the tires right away, but I just shrugged it off since they were too small for me anyways. But they are definitely NOT all-terrain tires.

I sold my SRA's on Craigslist and bought some Bridgestone Dueller Revo 2's. Way better tire

Why would GM try to get away with something so obvious as this? I'm surprised there aren't a bunch of threads in this forum about it.

It's a pretty big difference from bottom of the barrel Goodyear SR-A's to a decent set of All Terrains. Basically, A/T's are the best tire you can get for winter without going to an actual winter tire.

Makes a big difference on the Canadian prairies where we deal with ice and snow for 5 months a year.

I'm more feeling like, who tries to screw you on something like that on a $50k+ vehicle? What kind of shady operation are they running.

I agree with you, however Goodyear identifies the SRA as an "All Terrain" tire.

I'll upload a picture of the tire on my truck right away, no mention of A/T on the sidewall. Only thing is says is M + S (Mud and Snow), which is a general rating that seems to mean nothing, info here.

I didn't notice that little symbol that says all terrain under it, because on the canadian site, for the tire there is just the symbol with no writing under it or mention of A/T anywhere on the page or writing or specs: http://www.goodyear.ca/en-CA/tires/wrangler-sr-a

In my experience an All-Terrain tire, says A/T somewhere on it or in the name because they're not trying to hide it, they're trying to promote it, since they're a better type of tire.

Yeah I made the mistake when I bought my 05 that had the street Bridgestone dueler tires on it, could not even get up my driveway in 2" of snow in 4wd mind you. This time with the new all terrain I just bought I made sure that part of the deal included a set of ko2 a/t tires instead of the goodyears.

Bought my truck with the Z71 offroad package in June. Changed the tires to BFG A/T KO2 last month. Rear left tire had 4 plugs in it and had 1 in each front tire. All flats were done driving on logging roads in the woods. No nails nothing. All to say, place a 4 ply tire on an off road rated truck is kind of a cheap trick.

Agree I thought it was crap that the Z71 package on my Denali required an option for all terrain tires to the tune of $250 and these crummy SR-As is what I got. And I knew I was driving the truck straight to the shop for a level and some real tires.

GM is just capitalizing on the fact that Goodyear says they are great tires for "OffRoad" use and identifies them on their website as an "All Terrain" tire.

I emailed Goodyear and even though their website identifies them as "All Terrain" their response basically tip toed around the word "All Terrain" by using "Off Road" instead. Here is the conversation:

"Hello, are the Goodyear SRA 275/55R20 tires considered to be "All Terrain"?

My 2014 Silverado had them installed from the factory and GM says that they

are "All Terrain", I respectfully disagree. Thank you"

Thank you for contacting our web site and for your interest in Goodyear

tires. While the SR-A is mainly a highway tire, it is rated 7 out of 10 for

off road use.

Wonder how they got that 7/10. In my opinion, a tire you look at it a little too hard and make a hole in it is not that great for off the road hehe,

SR-A's are NOT all-terrain. I don't care who says what about them. I had those on my previous truck when I bought it...absolutely the worst tires ever. I was constantly putting the truck in 4wd just to get around in the rain. The ONLY redeeming quality of those tires were they lasted about 48k miles and that was it. There is no way these tires rate as high as Goodyear says in my book.

So, anyway, rant over, you need to take your truck back and get your money or your tires. Don't back down either.
