fast idle system on gas engine

hi i have a cherolet silverado z71 with the v8 5.3L (gas engine), vin 3gcukrec7eg104278. i bought it june 2013. i tried the options that where installed on my truck to make sure they worked. I especially tried the fast idle like its explained in the book, and it worked perfectly. I was surprised to see a fast idle on a gas engine. After a couple of updates at the dealer, i've never been able to make the fast idle system work again. Their answer to my question is : " it's only available on a diesel engine pickup, so its impossible". But it worked before the updates, i'm not sure witch one they did that removed this feature but i tried to activate it juste like it's explained how to in the owner's manual now, but it's gone. And the dealer says it never existed...

plz help!

'Elevated idle' is a diesel only item, and it function automatically.

I thought 'Fast idle' was available on both, fast idle is operated using the cruise control buttons.

(yes, they are different features with different purposes)

well i'm sorry but i used this option so many times last winter, my truck got hotter faster, i could efficiently boost other cars that i didnt use often cause the batteries were dead, i started my old tractor more easily with fast idle on my pickup, and i've been filling it up with gas since i got it... im not crazy!

I have to agree with the others, fast idle is for the Diesels only. GM may have had some programming bugs which they resolved with the software updtes, thus restoring your truck to the way it should have been from the factory. But I may be wrong!!

Partially wrong there. It is an HD option. It was available on the 6.0 gas 2500's and 3500's last gen. At least according to the GM Upfitters guide

At least for 2013 it was NOT available on 1500's. I can't find the info on a 2014 for availability. It could have been a mistake

Maybe it was programming mistake that had it enabled on early 1500's.

Picked my 2015 up today. :)

I'll try it tomorrow.

A high idle is a nice feature to have. I have used a high idle module from these guys in the past on a few GM and Dodge work trucks. I had one that would kick the idle up if it seen a drop in voltage or you could manually turn it on. These worked great and if I had the need I would purchase another.

Remember the first recall for a software update was for possible fire during idle. Maybe everyone had this feature but never knew it?

I remember reading this in the manual and trying but couldn't get my truck to do it when I first bought it. That was before the idle fire recall update.

Fast idle still works on my '14 1500. I think people hear fast idle and automatically think it's a diesel only thing, nope, just follow the directions in the manual and rpms jump up to 1200 rpm. Also read on here about a year ago for vehicles with no cruise to turn the key on but don't start, press gas pedal all the way to the floor and tap break pedal repeatadlly for 3 times within 8 seconds. Never tried that one though.
