2014 Sierra A/C Leaking

I've been driving GM trucks since 2003 and on my 3rd one, overall I have been happy with them.

My current model is a Sierra SLE 4x4 Z-71 with 45k miles which has been great so far until today.

But I can't help be pissed when the A/C stops cooling in the summer heat, and I take it in to the dealership and they say the condenser is leaking needing replacement with parts and labor $1000!! Wtf...

Truck is only two years old.

Gotta love the measely 36k warranty that expired.

I previously purchased extended warranties and never used them.

Buddy of mine rearended a car recently it looked like pretty minor damage to the front of his Sierra but the Ac Condenser coil started leaking after the bumper replacement and he had to take it back to have that fixed. So what did you bump into? If this were mine I would buy an aftermarket AC condenser and do it myself but I have all the tools and that might not be possible for most folks. Looks like a condenser coil for these trucks is around 100 bones you will get ripped n this at the dealership!

I do not remember bumping into anything.

So not sure how it happened.

My buddy who is a mechanic said similar the part is $100-150 and it should be a quick replacement no more than an hour or so.

The dealerahip is saying they have to remove a lot of parts to get to the condenser and they are charging $300 for the part and $600 for the labor, so sounds like these guys are full of it.

This is the kind of conduct GM condones at the dealer shops??

I may have to file a complaint.

there has been numerous posts about this in the last week. Mine went out Wednesday with 44k miles. Condenser cracked and leaked out. $900 but luckily CPO covered it.

Have an independent A/C shop do the work. The dealer will rip you off and install the same Chinese or Mexican made condenser that Auto Zone, O'Riley Auto parts, or any big national parts chain sells. Replacing the condenser and receiver/dryer and recharging the system should not cost more than about $ 400 including labor.

Glad I ran across this thread. I was looking for another issue and ran across this. A few months ago I replaced my front windshield. My passenger front floorboard qas soaking wet recently (has happened a few times) and se slight leaking on driver side too.

 

I was thinking window leaking, but now wondering if its condenser. Yep... Im at 40,000 Im gonna be pissed now that im past 36k warranty. Ugggghhhhh
