Is It Worth $5400 ?

I'm thinking YES, it is !

Working on a deal for a possible new daily-driver, here it is

The GOOD

2000 Silverado Z71 Ext Cab 3-door model, pewter, black interior, buckets/console,powertrain components good shape. 5.3 runs great, 4 speed shifts good, 4x4 works ok, no previous body work

The BAD

this sucker has a little rot on it. Passenger rocker is ok/clean. Driver rocker, at cab corner, is screwed.

Still strong metal, but rusty.

I wonder if this truck had a water leak at one time...the center rear seat belt actually has surface rust(on the chrome).

I bet the rear window(stock) was a leaker. If the seat belt buckle sat in the leak-path, and then the only drain-path was the LR cab corner?? Which would cause all that rust??

Help me out here guys...what's your experiences with these trucks leaking water??

Carfax and title history clean...

For $5400, I would say it's a good deal. :uhoh:

+1

A rusted cab corner is jack. Clean it paint it and pop a tiny hole in it.

Check around the Cab Corner seals for leaks and rear windshield.

How many miles?

For the rust I would sand it down and put some Pur-15 on it and then put bedliner on the bottom half of the truck.

Does it have a factory sliding rear window? (RPO code A28)

I would try and find out where the truck came from (state) as it may be a flood truck from the hurricane down in New Orleans a couple years ago with the rust on the seatbelt, seems strange to rust there.

Katrina hit New Orleans almost 5 years ago.

Sounds like a good deal to me, i just recently traded my 04 mitsubishi galant even for a 99 silverago with 180k miles on it. I love it, Except wich i would have got a little newer model for the price -_- oh well haha But the ywas askin $8900 for it. so half the price 1 yr newer, Wish i would have waited Sounds like a great deal man! As far as the daily driver... i get about 13-14 mpg and i drive alot interstate to and from work. Maybe look for a 4.8l unless u got money for the gas :-D

As far as any warranty or recall work, it was all done not too far from here...Beloit, Wisconsin

Clean title, no issues on CarFax

I'm a bit leery of this rusted-seatbelt thing...

No stains on carpet or seats that would indicate a flood...

And, no sliding rear window. Just factory tinted,non-defog rear glass.

I'm still debating this whole idea...the more ideas you guys give me, the better decision I can make...

OK,That eliminates that issue/problem as to where water might be coming in (The cracked sliding-rear window frame problem they had on the '99-'00's)

Rich,

I have a "leaker" story for you...this was back in March 2001...

'99 800-series Sierra ext cab 4x4

The whole complete driver side (front and rear) carpet was soaking wet; pass side was dry

Removed complete interior, and leak tested...found a small pinhole in a body seam at the 4th door area(truck was a 3dr ext cab). Pinhole was actually up on top, at roofline. Unbelievable how it drenched the whole carpet...just soaking wet

I have to take a look ad see if this Silvy might have the same problem...

Yep,We've seen that issue as well on the body seam,I guess sometimes the seam sealer gets a bubble in it which in turn turns into a pinhole.

Just me but 5400 and you SEE RUST...... thats whack.... I would be at 4500-4600 or so for a start if not lower... Just me..... Private party on it is 5585-6710....... Figure replacing the panel from the 5585..... 750 bucks if it is just one rocker..... If it is rusting in one spot its in more....

It would take 17000+ to drag my 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT out of my hands........ And it has 176.5k on the clock! I have grown quite attached to it....... Knock on wood, "I hope I am still driving it in 10 more years".....
