Atlanta BEWARE!!!

Terry Cullen Chevrolet made a mess of my truck.

I’ve got a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ 4x4 with a bunch of subtle (some not so subtle) customizations. This is obviously not a regular work truck. I been in several shows and the neighbors say I’m “going to wash the paint off it”. I actually spent a couple hours on my back washing the entire undercarriage before the last show about a month ago.

I travel the country for work, so it’s always guesswork which dealer will make sure the work is done right.

I heard a noise when put into 4wd and took it to Terry Cullen Chevrolet in Jonesboro, GA. The service writer explained to me they would charge me to find the problem if it wasn’t covered under warranty and I didn’t get the work done, but they thought it would be covered. I told them to go ahead with an oil change and got pricing on their other fluid services. ($500 in extra work)

I had an appointment, but it still took an hour waiting for the truck to be moved from the front of the shop. The tech drove it down the street, then picked me up to go on a ride with him. Well, he told me not to shift into 4wd while moving. This truck is equipped with electronic 4wd on the fly. The manual says it is designed to switch to 4wd at any speed. When I told him that, he said I shouldn’t do it.

Then, the tech told me the driveshaft angle is causing the noise and the lift voided the warranty. Remember, all he did was drive the truck down the street and back.

We got back to the shop and the service writer told me this is not covered and it would be a $89 charge. I told them I wasn’t paying for a full hour for this guy to drive my truck 2 miles. The manager split the difference and I paid $45. Still not happy about it, but figured they have to pay the tech. I’ve NEVER been charged for a test drive before.

Since the Manager was fair, I decided to go ahead with the oils change while I was there, paid the bill and when on my way.

Wondering about the 4wd problem, I looked under the truck and WOW oil was everywhere! Remember, I just spent hours cleaning the road grime from under the truck. The truck has no leaks and never had and oil anywhere on the truck. The undercarriage looked brand new before these guys got hold of it and I have pictures to prove it. The oil tech let the oil run down the lift components and left a puddle on top of the skid plate. When I drove down the road (a couple miles back to work) the oil got blown out of the skid plate and covered the underneath, down the satin polished driveshaft all the way back to the rear end.

I gave Terry Cullen Chevrolet an opportunity to make it right. They pressure washed with such a high pressure, it removed some of the protective coating on a couple areas and failed to get all the oil off.

I showed Terry Cullen’s Service Manager how oily it was under the truck and after having a few choice words for him, he refunded my money.

I took it back to the dealer after talking with Terry Cullen himself. The owner admitted to me he instructs his guys to automatically deny warrantee to vehicles with ANY modifications. Makes me wonder why the service manager said he thought the repair would be covered and then tried to charge me $89 for a test drive.

They hand washed the oily areas until back to where it was before they touched it. I have about 8 hours of my time on the phone, writing emails and waiting in their shop to get this corrected.

Time to take the panties off your truck & use it as a truck. You are treating it like a soccer mom/dad grocery getter. Go find some mud and have fun. Make a new 4x4 trail in the woods. Cut some donuts in the school yard. Do something productive with your lifted 4x4.

If you really care about your trucks shinny drive shaft, PM it yourself instead of letting the $8.00 an hour lube boy do it.

He already said it's a show truck. Should he take that Camaro in the picture and use it like a sports car and go do 150 MPH down the street whenever he drives it? No. Stop being a dick.

I agree 100%. I had a 87 chevy with 42" tires it was in a few shows and got some trophys but after about a week later he was in the mud and trails and used as a truck, if a show came up I spent all day cleaning and detailing after that it was back to a truck again.

he didnt once say he didnt use it in the mud? whos to say he didnt go mudding all weekend then spent hours gettin the sh!t off the bottom of it? he is just looking after his stuff and thats totally fine by me. wouldnt you be pissed if you waxed your truck and cleaned the interior and took it to get serviced then when it got back to you there was grease on your seats and dirty hand prints on your hood? yes you would be. and i would be too he is simply saying it was a very unprofessional job and i agree with him. garages seem to think just because you bring it to them you will never look to see the quality of the job? some people on here just need to relax and keep the topic to what it is related too.

You bust on him, but what do you drive? How do you treat your truck and what do you do with it? Apparently it is some kind of stealthy Batmobile.

He already said it's a show truck. Should he take that Camaro in the picture and use it like a sports car and go do 150 MPH down the street whenever he drives it?

Why not? He did not buy it for the gas mileage. Every V8 sports car I have ever had has been driven like I stole it from the day I took delivery to the day I traded it in on the next one. The dealers sell them as: "One owner trade, new tires, all highway miles back & forth from church by a little old lady."

Exactly. He's not you. Maybe he plans on keeping his vehicles for a while and doesn't want to abuse them all the time..?

It's a "high-way princess" as we call them around here!!!

But he did say it's a show truck...

Anyways, to the topic starter:

Did you think you'd be able to get any sort of drive train warrenty with a lift like that??

I'd be choked too about the oil everywhere. When I used to let my dealer do the oil (they did it for free) they would make it spotless under there (guess I got lucky with my dealer)

I stopped going there for other reasons and I only change my own oil now (and any other service required), its not that hard (the engine oil), especially on a truck like yours.

So because he doesn't use his truck to your standards, that somehow makes him girly?

What a myopic view of the world you must have.

Seems to me like YOU need to take your girl-panties off and stop trying to change other people, or how they treat the stuff that they pay for.

The dealer came good for it. I would say that is a good place to go.

X2. They (eventually) made it right. The oil change debacle is what you get when you have it done at a dealer. The newest wet-behind-the-ears techs (and the shitbags at my local dealership) are the ones doing the oil changes because nobody trusts them doing actual work. The "techs" at Jiffy Lube have more experience and will probably do a better lube job than some dealerships.

Give me time to return. Some people are in the 90% that still have a job here. I lost all respect for that vehicle being called a truck when he said satin polished driveshaft. I don't care who you are. That is some funny stuff!

Did anyone else even notice that a 1 post poster showed up to slam a business & not return? Hmmmm....

I agree, I laughed at the same thing.
