Don't Lose Your Keys

Any Keys that have a "+" inside of a circle have a chip in them and cost $48.xx each and have to be programmed to work so the vehicle needs to be there when the key is made. I needed an extra key and stopped to get one made yesterday. Before he even cut it he said it will cost you $51.xx with tax. Judging from his remarks I guess a lot of customers get really po'd over this. He also said, better hope you never lose both keys or you got big problems.

That's got to be one expensive chip to charge that much.

Go to eBay and find the right key, the one with the + sign on it. I picked up two in the OEM GM packaging for less than $20 shipped. Then I got an experienced guy at the local hardware store to cut them. There are steps in the owners manual on how to program new keys. Got two OEM keys for mine cut and programmed for less than $20.

Onstar can get you into a locked vehicle 99% of the time but they cannot help you if you lose your keys except call a tow truck, at least that was what the parts guy told me.

can't find any key blanks for 2010 NBS trucks on ebay.

This is a transponder key. Note the circle with the cross on the shank.

These guys have the correct transponder key for the gmt-900s and less than $20 bucks:

You can buy the key and have your local hardware store cut it for you off one of your spare keys.

You can also program it yourself

(if you have another original spare key).

Insert original key....Turn to run position (do not start)

Wait for security lights to go off. Turn ignition off.

Insert new key and turn to run position.

Wait for security lights to go off. Turn ignition off.

DONE!

NOTE: If you lost all your ignition keys your screwed and its

time for the tow truck and a trip to your local GM dealer and

a $pendy date with the Tech 2....................

I been trying to order from the site for a hour and for some reason I cannot check out.

anyone carry or know the number to call ???

Why yes!! Onstar sent a wallet card with all the info I need printed on it. As long as I don't lose my keys and wallet I am covered.

Got two extra keys for free from my dealer. Made it part of the deal prior to signing the contract. Might seem like over kill to have four ignition keys but it's become standard practice for me. Never had to use Onstar to unlock my doors but do carry the card in my wallet. If I lock my keys in the car, can't find my hide a key in the hitch, and loose my wallet that's just a sign from God that I have done something very bad. The time spent sitting on the curb waiting for the lock out guy will give me some time to think about my evil ways.

I have 4 sets to everything I OWN. If it has remotes that would be with remotes also....... I keep one in my desk at work, one in the console, one in my desk at home, and I drive with one......

Also, I have a spare key to EVERYTHING on a key ring.... last 4 of the vin punched in the key or the number of the address punched on the key. Padlocks are numbered in my own rhythm also....

Really if I lock my keys in my truck onstar will open the door for me??? Seeing as how I don't have power locks, I'd like to see that, might make it worth the insane dollars per month they ask for to provide an extremly medicore service. (not to mention they renew without authorization, have crap navigation, takes 8 hours for a tow truck (I found my own in about 45 mins), among other things.... )

Guys.......Also remember that if your still under the new car 3/36 warranty or if you have

the GMPP ex-warranty you have the roadside assistance plan also!

Its FREE and they will send a tow truck or locksmith to unlock your vehicle and/or

get you another key ! Also included is towing, jump starts, bring you gas if you

run out etc.....................

Heck most insurance companies also have some sort of roadside assistance programs

like the GM plan also. I have Geico and it costs a paultry $12 bucks a year per car!

That's a negative on that one. I've got a Work Truck model so I have manual locks/windows. Locked my keys in my truck 2 years ago about an hour from home and as soon as I closed the door I thought "Oh Shit!". Then a ray of sunshine hit as I remembered OnStar. I knew I had manual locks but thought I'd give it a try at least. Gave them a call, told them the problem, and the gentleman on the phone said "OK, your doors should be unlocked now. Is there anything else we can do for you today?" Checked and double checked and doors were still locked. I told him they were still locked and that they are manual. He replied "Oh, well we can't do anything about manual locks."

Not OnStar's fault. Just a head's up that they aren't of assitance when it comes to manual locks.

On a side note, would you need the special "expensive" programming chip inside your key for manual door locks? My keys do have the circle with cross symbol.
