Questions About Crew Cabs And Atv's

I didn't get much help from the search function on this, so I thought I'd ask. I have an 09 Crew with the 5' 8" bed and I'm looking at getting a toolbox. Will I still be able to haul my Honda Rancher in the bed? I know it will have to sit on the tailgate, but that doesn't bother me. Any info you guys can give me, or pictures you have of this setup would be greatly appreciated!

Measure the rancher, and then the width of the tool box. Not sure how muc weight you want on the tail gate, and strap it in real well.

I highly doubt it. I have the regular box (6'6") and when I throw my buddies Yamaha Grizzly in there it sits on the tailgate since I have a toolbox as well.

Just go pick up a cheap trailer and haul it.

Hence the reason I went with an Extra Cab. Just not enough room in the box for me toys :D

Sorry I'm of no help on your question though.

I loaded the Rancher up this afternoon, then rolled it back on the tailgate. It will be REALLY close to the edge but it left a little over 20 inches between the winch fairlead and the front bed wall. I have been looking at the different "narrow" (front-to-back) toolboxes online this afternoon, most of them are under 14" wide so that may be the route I wind up taking. I also may reposition my wheeler winch so the fairlead doesn't extend quite as far forward. Anybody seen or used any of the narrow toolboxes?

I don't have a tool box and its all I can do to get the tailgate closed on mine with the Grizzly. It has a winch on front so I cut a 1.5" thick piece of my broadhead target to cushion the front end.

Just don't let this happen to you guys.

FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) -- Police say a Farmington man has died after an ATV fell off his pickup truck and crushed him.

Farmington Police Chief Wayne Hansen says the 39-year-old man was near his home on Tuesday loading ATVs onto a rack on his pickup so he could go on a hunting trip. Something caused one ATV to slide off and it fatally injured him.

The man's 14-year-old son found him Tuesday afternoon. It was unclear how long the man had been underneath the ATV when he was found. The man's name was not immediately released.

I'd be willing to bet that he didn't tie the ramps to the truck. I have seen this several times, people just want to save a minute or two unloading or loading and next thing you know the ramp or ramps slitp of the tailgate and .... I'm all for shortcuts in life, but only the shortcuts that allow me to keep it.

I'd be skeptical of the toolbox and the Rancher in at the same time. I have an Outty, (short version) and I would not be able to put a box between the front/back of it and the cab, but mine sits partly on the tailgate already. These machines weigh quite a bit (Mine is over 700 wet without fluids/handlebars/wheels/tire, and I am sure the Rancher is not that much lighter) so I like to keep the bulk of the weight off the tailgate if I can. Just my $0.02.

Yeah, before I even loaded the Rancher up yesterday I adjusted the cables on my ramps so they can't slide off. It always amazes me at the number of people who don't adjust the cables, or even use them. My Rancher is a 350, so it's a lot smaller quad than the Grizzly, but I'm not sure how much weight it is going to be on the tailgate. I have a small trailer I can pull it on, but during hunting season I prefer to have it in the truck all the time because I often only have a few minutes to run hunt with little notice before hand.

I've got an '06 crew with the 5'8" bed and no toolbox and my '03 vinson won't fit with the gate closed. Sits out about 10" on the gate and I know that the rancher is much smaller than my vinson.

Here's mine with my Brute Force loaded up. I have a trailer as well but it's out in the country and I like to keep the bike at my house in case we go down to the Spillway in Norco which is the opposite direction the farm is.

I definitely couldn't put a toolbox in mine and load the bike.

I couldn't even close the tailgate with my previous Ford and it's 6.5ft bed.

Charles...nice ride! And the wheel well liners really do improve the looks. Anyway, I'm imagining how that guy's Rancher would look with a tool box. Assuming he has a receiver hitch, I'd take the truck to a welding shop to see about fabricating a support with 2" tubing and a small bottle jack. Again, assuming the Rancher has a trailer hitch, a ball welded upside down in the square tubing might be the answer to picking some of the weight off the tail gate.
