Just Purchased A Used 2008 Silverado, Few Questions

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have uploaded a picture of my truck. It is a 2008 LT with 14k miles.

1. What is gm specific color of this truck ?

2. How do I tell the bed length of the truck ? Do I measure from inside the bed, or outside along the body line. Can anyone tell the bed length by looking at the picture ?

When I push the horn on the steering wheel there is no horn, also when I lock the doors or press the alarm the lights blink but there is no horn. I was going to start to see if the horn was hooked up, but I can't find it. So question:

3. Where is the horn on this truck ?

you have the 6'5" box. Color I can't help you with. Also the horn just check the fuse to see if it is blown.

I think that's the Granite color, but someone else could probably give you a better answer.

The bed is listed as a 78" bed or commonly referred to as a 6 1/2 foot bed.

I suppose it could be the fuse. My 99 horn failed right after it was new on one of the two. GM has really low quality horns IMO.

Thanks for the quick replies. I should have mentioned that I already checked the fuse. I am up in the air about the color just like you two. I have no idea what the gm specific paint code is for this truck.

The color is either regular gray or graystone, but it looks more like regular gray, as graystone has more silver in it.

Look at your RPO codes.

The bottom line is your paint code. Mine is BC/CC (Base coat Clear Coat) U 926L.

There should be an RPO look up on here somewhere.

Congrats on the truck. The horn - why would it not be hooked up? Did you get a Carfax that was clean? Has the airbag been replaced and the wiring not connected during the install? This is where I would start to look if the fuse is good.

Are you sure your truck is a LT? The front bumper looks similar to that on a W/T. Maybe there was front end damage and that is the reason as to why the horn is not working? Run a CarFax.

The color is Desert Brown Metallic

No, I think it is cherry red metallic.

But I think you are right. Odd as it is, this is the official "desert brown" color. It looks pretty gray to me though.

I would take it to the dealer you bought it from and make them fix it. There is no reason they should not make sure all those things work before they sell it. Of course they say they do but we all know that is a line of BS. Another option is take it to any Chevy dealer seeing it should still be under the factory warranty. Like to others said though I would look into the history of the truck.

I agree. It should have NOT passed safety without the horn working.

Looks to light to be desert brown. Looks closer to greystone.

I'm with everyone else on the possible front end damage.

Good eye everyone. I wanted to see if you guys would notice it was a rebuilt title (wrecked) without me mentioning. I guess the W/T front bumper gave it away. Truck was in front end collision as you can tell from the different bumper. I went over it with a fine tooth comb before purchasing, I guess I just forgot about the horn. Took it to a frame specialist/alignment etc.... checked out fine. I have purchased many rebuilt vehicles, always little odds and ends like this you have to fix. That is why I wanted to know where the horn was located so I could make sure it was even there.

Truck is a LT for sure, has leather interior, dual climate control, remote start, etc.....

Question about the paint. The paint code in the glove box is U 414P.

This site says it is called cocoa metallic:

http://www.automotivetouchup.com/choosecol...amp;search.y=13

Yet edmunds doesn't even list that as a color for 2008 silverados:

http://www.edmunds.com/used/2008/chevrolet...224/colors.html

Edit: Edmunds lists dessert brown metallic, but doesn't list cocoa metallic.

Automotive touchup lists cocoa metallic, but doesn't list dessert brown metallic.

Think they are the same color just listed under different names ?
