2010 Silverado Crew Cab Rear Window Trouble

Hello,

 

I just got a Brand New 2010 Silverado crew cab ...needed something with some more room. So i was driving down the highway at around 65 and put down the rear window by mistake meant to put down the front one but when the window got past half way the whole inside of the truck started to shake and felt like the windows were gonna blow out, you could feel that it was from a pressure difference . Has anyone had this happen to them ....is this normal, dont think it should be.

yes it's normal. Just wind blowing against the rear window.

yes it's normal. Just wind blowing against the rear window.

 

 

You have just discovered what is known as cabin boom. You excited the natural frequency of the cabin also known as the helmholtz resonance.

Very normal. Do it again tomorrow, but this time when the suddering gets really bad...crack the other rear window a bit...it will go away as quickly as it started.

It does this in the extended cabs as well. However it does not go away till I crack one of the front windows.

Yup, can't open just one window too far. You can "crack it" open... but not too far. It's the same on all crew cab trucks. When testing the Tundra I did the same and had the same result... only it was bit worse. It's just air resonance.

Must be a lemon, take it back. No, it's normal, same with my extended cab.

Normal. I had an accord that would literally bounce the dash up and down when you opened up nothing but the sunroof.

Ford had this figured out in the 60's in my Mustang with vents in the sides behind the side windows. Silent as can be when you have the windows down on the highway too

Don't give GM any ideas. I am sure their people read this forum and one of them just might put in a suggestion to make the crew cab rear windows stationary to eliminate the wind buffeting effect. This way they can save at least $ 150 per truck.

Maybe then they will offer a DeLorean style cut out windows as a $500 first in class option
