3.6l Vvt In A Fullsize Truck ...?

this week I saw a GM Canada full page promotion ad in our local newspaper and the promotion GM truck advertised was a 2010 1500 extended cab 4x4 .... with a 3.6L VVT engine ... and a 6-speed transmission .... ?

 

I know this engine is used in the new crossovers, small SUVs, Buicks, and Cadillacs... but is this ad correct that this new direct injection engine is going into full size trucks..?

 

... is it a misprint in the ad..?

 

... if not, are we getting a truck here ? ... or a gas mileage promotion vehicle that looks like a truck..?

 

I've driven lots of 6-cylinder trucks and I am not scared of them, ... but I had not heard of this development before...

Has to be a typo. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 3.6L VVT replace the 4.3L in the future, but not in the 2010 trucks.

just checked the GM Canada build site and it still says 4.3L for the WT

Not that the 3.6L would be a bad idea over the 4.3L...I haven't seen a torque curve but I know the HP/TQ numbers are higher than the 4.3L...and it would be a tonne better on fuel.

 

Just looked at the numbers for torque and the 3.6L hits full torque at 5200 rpm in the Camaro, the 4.3 at 2800....

the 3.6 is 273ft-lbs and the 4.3 is 260 ft-lbs

 

Now the 3.6 could have a flat curve all the way from idle for all I know....but with a little tuning and a cam from the factory I don't see why it wouldn't be a feasible truck engine for the WT series even if the torque curve was steep, a cam could flatten it right out.

The 3.6 liter engine is a perfect blend between fuel economy and power in a car like the Camaro - especially with a manual transmission. For everyday driving I would pick this engine over the 6.2 liter. In a full size truck though - it would not be a good towing engine.

You read my message wrong. I meant if I bought a Camaro and used it as everyday driver. I found the 3.6 liter to be adequate in that car and it would definitely be easier on gas.

Fuel economy with the 6.2 is actually better than my 2000 with the 5.3. It is slightly (very slight about 1 mpg) less than my 08 Tahoe with afm and the 5.3

yeah I guess the 6 speed makes up for the increased displacement quite well.
