Recommended Posts

Anyone ever looked at or thought about how to movethe steering wheel about an inch closer and make it look good and work? Do the LTZs have a telescoping wheel option? I'm just not comfortable in the postion i need my legs in with my arm rest etc.

any thoughts?

The steering column is placed in a precise alignment for the driver and airbag in case of a deployment. Do not change anything if you value your life.

kinda like dont take the front spoiler off your truck or it will flip over!!!

I have always liked the jeeps with the right hand drive........ But I would not consider the moving steering wheel and pedals and gauges and everything else....

Some makes and models do move the steering wheel in/out and up/down..... GM DOESN'T move in and out...

Why not? If Honda can do it and GM cannot??...tele in and out would be helpful for me too...

I am talking about the angle of the column V/S the driver. If the vehicle has no tilt/telescope column its because th option was not ordered.

GM has a telescope column?????

Give them a year or twoooo and they will eliminate the physical link in between the wheel and the rack and pinion (or gear box) and put some wires in place..... Just wait lets see how bad Toyota messes that up (remember the gas pedal issue.......:thumbs: )

GM has had the telescoping feature in a lot of vehicles for many years, but just not the full size trucks or SUV's, especially.

Since not offered on this vehicle line (the only upgrade being the Escalade with power vs. manual tilting), but no telescoping. You'd have to play engineer & production manager to design and test a custom telescoping column and so forth, otherwise not sure what else you could do. Adjusting the seat and/or power pedals are your options.

I rented a 2010 Equinox a few weeks ago that had this. And GM used to have it in lots of vehicles.

Not saying the Nox is the same platform as our trucks, but it probably could be done.

our Traverse has telescope. And for the guy that says the airbag is aligned for safety  So i guess that the seat moving in and out and the tilt on my current ride must not be very safe.

If i move the seat forward an inch then my legs feel cramped. Was just checking if anyone had ever done anything with it. Even just moving it out permanently. I find that the wheels in a lot of cars are too far away for my comfort. Must just be me.

Sorry for bringing up the dead, but I too have this problem, just purchased a 2007 Tahoe LTZ, really like the truck, the only thing was the steering wheel was a bit far away, 1" closer would be wonderful.. I know GM has offered the telescoping wheel for a long time, actually had the option in a 1977 (yes that is correct) Buick Electra 225 Limited. Always thought it was the cats meow, only car I ever had with the option.

I suppose they do not offer the telescoping steering when they have the movable foot pedals. They might look at it to be redundant. As for the commenter that it would make you too close to the steering wheel?!? I suppose if that was the case, why have an adjustable seat?

Could it all be because the telescoping steering wheel is better suited for a vehicle you would fall into as apposed to a truck that you would pull yourself up into and cause distress to the column?

Good idea, but all semi trucks I have ever been into have telescopic steering.

There's gotta be a way to modify these..

I really miss a tele steering wheel. My truck does not have the pedals that adjust, anyone ever retrofit them?
