Below is two filters from K&N that goes on the 5.3L motors. For my 5.3, in my 2006 silverado, stock filter is this size:

HP-1007.jpg

HP-1007

Height: 3.74 in (95 mm)

Outside Diameter: 2.98 in (76 mm)

Thread Inside Diameter: 0.81

Thread Number: 16.00000

PSI Relief Valve: None

Anti Drain Back Valve: Yes

Style: Canister

Bypass Valve: No

Weight: 0.4 lb (0.2 kg)

The one I use is:

HP-2006.jpg

HP-2006

Height: 4.78 in (121 mm)

Outside Diameter: 2.99 in (76 mm)

Thread Inside Diameter: 0.81

Thread Number: 16.00000

PSI Relief Valve: None

Anti Drain Back Valve: Yes

Style: Canister

Bypass Valve: No

Weight: 0.8 lb (0.3 kg)

The Wix equivalent of the HP-2006 above is: Larger WIX Oil Filter 51045

I thought I would post this for anyone that may want to have a larger filter, as it can hold a tad more oil and filter more oil. It holds more than 1/4 quart more oil, but best of all is the better filtering capacity as there is simply more filter area.

For my truck, it recommends using a hp-2006 or a mobil 206. I think the napa that I use is a 1544 or something and it's bigger than those two filters. A K&N and a mobil are the same filter inside, just so you know.

The HP-2006 is the normal filter for the 6.0L? That is pretty good to know. I wonder why they didn't just use the same larger filter on both engines?

That's the only filter listed for oil filter on my truck, considering just K&N filters. But, they do use that earlier part number on corvettes because of lack of space to put a filter, as my dad had a 99' ls1 and it would use the first filter size you showed.

The correct NAPA WIX numbers for LS engines are 1042, 1522, and 7060 (depending on vehicle and RPO code). 1045 is not for use on a LS engine and WIX will not stand behind it when used on that engine. I am quite sure K&N will have the same policy. Sometimes it pays to stay out of the size section and reverse lookup's....

Case in point. Customer wished to have a bigger hydraulic filter. He got one that was 2 or 3 inches longer than the original. The media was the same as were all the other specs. Filter was contacted by something on the tractor, in as he said under normal operations. Ran the system dry before he noticed the fluid trail behind him. The pump had to be replaced. He instantly blew up and demanded WIX pay for it. It was the wrong filter for the application. He had came up with a fleetgaurd number and I crossed his fleetgaurd number over to WIX..... Sold him the WIX filter. I normally put crossed from customers part number ______ on an invoice when I cross a number.... Saved me the cost of the pump. The customer ATE it..... It was his fault. That is why the go to such extents to make sure there applications are correct for the application at hand.

I've used the larger/longer oil filters for over 100,000 miles now with no problems.

I mostly use the Purolator Pure One #PL25288.

I doubt a filter that has the same threads, media, backflow, valves, etc will EVER cause a failure on anything. Failures happen because of the filter itself not having the same properties/functional pieces inside as te factory filter, OR the person didn't fill up the system properly. A filter with more reservoir and filter capacity is not going to fail anything.

I'm glad I don't get caught up in the bigger is better...Thats why I used to tell the ladies that its not the size of the wand ...its the magic in it that counts.. :sigh:

Filter Design Change - PF46, PF47, PF52 and PF61 (WD Bulletin 09D-054)

ACDelco is implementing a design change on the PF46, PF47, PF52 and PF61 ACDelco Oil Filters due to

capacity constraints on the current product design. GM engineers have approved the new design which will

begin to be incorporated in upcoming vehicle designs. This OE approved and manufactured filter provides

the same Duraguard filtration performance as the previous design and specifically utilizes the original

ACDelco media that traps particles up to 25 microns. Additional features include a slightly smaller can, fully

covered baseplate, non metallic end caps and high strength nylon core. This newly designed oil filter has

the benefits of not only bringing excellent filtration performance, it is also environmentally friendly with

components that can now be easily separated into steel, oil and parts to incinerate, resulting in less waste.

At this time, the Durapack versions of the alternative design filter will begin shipping. The boxed or

individually packaged versions will utilize the available production capacity on the original design, where

possible, and will otherwise begin to rollover to the new alternative design.

ACDelco appreciates your business and stands behind each and every filter that we distribute with pride

and confidence. Should you have any concerns or questions at all, please feel free to contact your local

ACDelco sales representative.

99% of the vehicles out their do not benefit by owners playing "engineer" and purposely putting on a oversize filter.

The filter maker will not warranty it if using a non cataloged filter for your application.

Exactly, the filter shown for application will suffice, it was designed that way, no need to go with non-cataloged filters.

You're not going to get any BETTER filtration with a larger filter. Better filtration would be if you switched brands, from say the Fram orange can to a Mobil 1 or Purolator Pure One oil filter.

The only difference in the larger filter would only be more filtration media area. This may potentially give you a longer filtration life out of the filter, say if you were doing longer OCI's.

If the vehicle is still under waranty, I would stick with what it calls for.
