im wanting to get a CAI but i cant justify 380 for a plastic box and tube. would i get the same results if i just bought an airaid tube with a volant filter and used the stock box? does an aftermarket box have anything to do with performance or is it more for appearance?

That will work well for you

Save your money and get the Airaid tube. Don't bother with a CAI. The stock airbox flows well enough already. I personally have an Airaid intake tube with an Amsoil filter.

the stock design isen't bad at all, tubes and crap don't do much unless you tune for it...if it gave you extra mpg and power, gm would have made is OEM

I just put on an Airaid MIT this morning, and the only question I have is: Just what in the heck was GM trying to kill with all of those resonance chambers (4!!!) attached to that stock intake tube? The smooth MIT should have revealed whatever monster they found, but........I heard nothing objectionable. Guess the Beltone needs another battery. Or not.

The resonance chambers have NO effect on performance and do not restrict incoming air. Remember if you have a 4.8 or 5.3L they use the same air intake system as a 6.0L. The resonance chambers just quiet intake noise.

I also say just get the tube. I forget where I read it, but an article had some tests in it that showed the stock airbox flows more than the truck can use at any one given point. The restriction is all in the stock tube, especiallly where they pinch it down over the fan shroud.(at least on my '06)

i don't believe in all the CAI hype, or "not as restrictive as stock" its all marketing horseshit...anybody that i've known with a cai ended up with a lighter wallet and one dirty throttle body

Yeah, I would just save the money. I bought the airaid jr kit (tube and filter) and I like it, of course I only paid about $100 for both on amazon. I have it tuned, but honestly I don't think any of them do shit unless you have exhaust with it. It needs to get air out as fast as it sucks it in. Only difference is like the others said, no more "quiet silence" under the hood when you hit the gas. It sounds like there is a motor in there now. I have my exhaust pipe cut after the muffler as it turns over the axle, so it is still pretty much stock.
