Look What Santa Brought Me!

Hi all! I posted this in another thread, but figured it was better suited here in this thread. So...

I picked up my 2011 Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab Z71 just before Christmas (WOW what a Christmas present!)

5.3L w/ 6 Speed Trans

Summit White

Z71 Apperance package with solid color application (i.e. white grill and white mirrors. Very sharp!)

Black leather interior.

Buckets with center console

Bose speakers

18" aluminum rims

Add-ons (not all done yet...)

Extang Solid Folding bed cover

Black 3" nerf bars

BedRug (bottom of bed only. Might do whole bed later...)

AlphaTherm washer fluid heater (on order...)

OEM Nav (not yet, doing it after the fact seems it will save me about $1000 from factory price)

OEM heated seat unit (not yet, waiting on pricing and install info in case I don't want to tackle it myself)

I also found the thread here on hiding the antenna. Since I'm a big XM fan, I may do that.

Only issues so far is a rattly drivers side window, which I will have them fix under warranty. And the nerf bars squeek from a shoddy dealership install (figures) Other than that this truck is 100% perfect!

A couple oddities in the purchase of this truck is that I very much wanted the factory NAV. It is an orderable item in the LT version, but even in contacting GM directly there are NONE available at any dealership with the factory NAV installed. It seems that they offer it, but just don't do it. So I resorted to installing it after the fact. In some of the research I've done, it seems I can get the full kit for about $1500 new. Not sure if I'll install yet or have a pro do it. I've got a quote for $400 for the pro install. Anyway, $1900 is much better than the $2800 they want on the sticker for the NAV unit!

Also, I was kind of confused on the battery location in the 2011. This might be in the 2010 as well, I just don't know. The single battery setup I have is located on the passeger side up against the firewall. I'd figure this is where the optional secondary battery would go. There is a spot for a battery in front on the driver side as well, it's just empty in my truck's case. Changing the battery if and when needed in it's current location will be a real pain the ***. Looks like I'd need to remove bars and fluid bottles and such just to get near it. Oh well. GM engineering is usually pretty good, so there must have been some good reason for them to put it there instead of where it seems it should go.

The whole idea on this truck was to have as little chrome as I could get. Only the tow hooks on front and the back bumper are chrome. I'd prefer the hooks be black annodized, might do that later. Not sure if I'll change the back bumper yet. It still looks fantastic as is.

That sounds like a pretty good Christmas present!

You'll have some squeaks and creaks on a truck. If they don't go away, you could probably get them taken care of.

And that's the location of the battery on my 2007. And yes, it IS a PITA to change :)

Yeah, coming back from a crossover SUV, I've forgotten how a real truck sounds. It's those squeaks and rattles that make a truck a truck after all, right? :)

My new 2011 GMC LTZ doesn't have a squeak or a rattle anywhere?? If it did it would be going back for repair

Wow nice! Love the color-matched front end...

One thing confuses me... Since the heated washer fluid system has been a recall since the 2007 models, why would they still be putting this defective system in the 2011's? (You mentioned you've ordered the Alphatherm unit already to do the replacement leads me up believe your truck came with the OEM one)

Any pics of the interior?

I was under the impression that the leather bucket seat/console option all came heated. Unless you have the leather wrapped split bench with fold-down armrest.

Navi in a non-SLT or LTZ is a rare find. I almost think if you do find one it was a custom order that didn't go through. My leftover 2010 SLE I just picked up does have the Navigation, as well as rear camera.

Very nice truck! Congratulations.

Alphatherm bought the rights to the OEM heater, and now makes one that is not defective. If you have the old setup with the heater removed, they sell an easy replacement that plugs in and you're good to go. If you have a newer model, then they sell a complete kit, that actually installs on just about any car/truck.

Finally added the new NAV radio. Cost me $1,600 for the radio. Much cheaper than if it were on the original invoice. This is the plain NAV, no DVD or other features.

It's definately something you don't see every day, that dash with that radio...
