Cab Room

I bought a 2011 silverado crew cab which i love but I feel like there is less room in the cab than in my 06 crew cab. I also road in my bosses 2010 ford f150 and you could fit a small town in the back seat of that thing. there was a ton of room in there. Wondering if you think this will be adressed in the next gm redesign.

I can't imagine that the next redesigned GM trucks wouldn't have at very least a slightly larger cab. That seems to be the #1 complaint I see out of people is the size and quality of the GM interior.

The rear of crew cabs in F-150s and Tundras seem so much roomier than Silverados/Sierras. Hopefully they will get more room in the redesign which is just a few years off I believe. I would also like to see a 6.5' bed offered on half ton models.

What do you mean 6'5 bed ? Chevy offers the 5'4 6'5 and 8'2 box ...

Are you talking in the crew cabs only or something ?

Yes, GM only offers the 5.5' bed for crew cab 1500s. I know many people are divided over choosing between a larger cab but smaller bed and larger bed but smaller cab.

Actually, the GM bed is 5'-9". The Tundra bed really is 5'-6", but the cab is larger by 6", meaning Toyota "moved the cab forward" about 3". I think the GM cab/bed proportion looks the best of them all, but you do lose a few inches of inside space (gaining a few inches of bed).

I was just rounding for the sake of time on the bed length. What I was trying to get at is that on the F-150 you can have both the SuperCrew and the 6.5' bed. I know those couple of inches make a big difference for me. I need them when I have my dirt bike in the back.

A big thing they have to worry about is making a truck so long that it won't fit in a standard sized garage. I have a 2-car garage on a ranch style home and my ext. cab / short bed fits by about 2". I think the crew cab with shorter bed is the same length overall as mine. I imagine sales would be hurt if people had to park them outside...well at least I wouldn't buy a truck that I couldn't fit into my garage.

Actually everyone has been wrong. The bed on the crewcabs (1500) are 5ft 8"

It's actually 5'9.3" according to Chevrolet.com

Well I checked the silverado brochure and it is listed at 5.8 (I read it wrong). If you take .8 * 12 you get 9.6" so the short bed on the

CC is 5 ft 9.6"

Having recently come out of a Tundra I can speak to the room in the cab of the Crewmax. It is HUGE. The rear seats can be moved forward a good 8 inches (maybe more?) and the rear seat backs can recline. The new F 150 is close, but I've never seen as much leg room in a truck as was in the Toyota. BUT there are a couple of tradeoffs. First off the front end of the Tundra is stubbed off and is very short. Also a bigger concern for me was the size of the rear doors on the Crewmax. They opened a full 90 degrees and seemed (if they actually weren't) longer than the front doors. So if you were in close parking quarters you really had to guard against dinging your door in the car parked next to you. Also with their size and relatively light weight (compared to the GM trucks-the Tundra's doors seemed much lighter) if there was any wind when you opened a door the door became a sail and would literally pull you out of the truck. I've cringed many a time as my son would open his door when I dropped him off at school. Thankfully he never got hurt with the door, but if it were very windy I wouldn't let him open it. Also parking in my garage was a problem. Even though my double garage is 24 feet wide the wide doors would bump the wall on one side and if my wife was parked a little less than straight it would tag her sideview mirror on her car. In short I REALLY liked the room, but it definitely had its drawbacks as well. The long cab and short stubby front end made for, in my opinion, a strange truck profile.

The Chevy crew has plenty of room for us. My sons don't have to have their own zip code in the back seat. And in my opinion the proportions of the GM trucks are balanced more nicely.
