Muffler Question

I've got a 2011 Silverado CC Z71 with a 5.3L. I'm looking for a little more rumble when I step on the gas. I'm not really interested in a whole new exhaust system. A friend of mine who drives an F150 says he just replaced his stock muffler with an aftermarket one and then dumped it, I'd love mine to sound like his does. What steps do I have to take to get something like this done to my truck? I'd want to go through an exhaust place instead of doing it myself. Is it really just as simple as buying a muffler and having some guys put it on for me? Will this be something that will last the life of my truck, or will it need to be maintenanced? Thanks guys.

As far as just a muffler swap I would do a mangaflow or dynomax. I just put a 20" manga flow on my 2010 and I can't hear it during idle or cruising, only when I give it gas. It's a nice drone free deep tone. I'm happy as can be! If you only want to hear it when you hit the gas you will want a longer muffler like anywhere from an 18"-22".

 

As far as getting it done, if I were you I would just find out what muffler you want, and order it online and take it to a shop for them to install. Dynomax you may have to order, but mangaflow most reputable muffler shops carry. You can count on a shop charging $150-$200 for the mangaflow and them weld it in place. It will be maintenance free as long as they weld it right. Go with a stainless steel muffler (which magnaflow and dynomax both are) and it will easily last the life of the truck. :lol:

Buy online and have a local shop put it on. Check google for some good local places, read the reviews and go talk to them

 

Make sure you buy stainless steel if you want a long life out of it

I have true dual thrush welds on my caprice sound great way better then glasspacks or any other muffler for the money.

That muffler is for a ricer. You want one without the tip.

 

Personally I hate the sound of a dumped muffler. I had one on my truck when I bought it and ditched it quick. It made the whole cab vibrate at idle. Made my head throbb. you can get the same sound with a tailpip, and you will have the majority of the resonance exit behind the truck and thus reduce in-cab drne substantially. However, Ive never found a loud muffler that had no drone, but Ive heard they exist.

You need one that looks like this. Just search for sound clips of different mufflers you want i.e. magnaflow, flowmaster, cherry bomb, dynomax and so on. But once again, from your original post it sounds like you should go with a dynomax or magnaflow
