Ordering A 2012

I was looking thru the 2012 brochure and trying to order an SLT crew 4WD w/6.2L, but the max trailer package shows only the 17" wheels. I was hoping to get the 20" chrome clad ones. Anyone know if the 6.2 options limts your wheel options due to the power??

I think the Denali has the bigger rims with the 6.2L. thanks.

When you order the NHT package, you get 17" wheels. Not sure why you can't get 20's either but you just can't. I put my own on my truck. It was cheaper anyways than the factory 20's. If you want the 3.73 gears, you need the max trailer package and that comes with 17" wheels. If you want the 20's, your gonna have to loose the max trailer package and get the 3.42's. Those who have the 3.42's are happy, but to me it was a big enough difference to order the max trailer to get the 3.73's. You need to drive one back to back to really get a feel for the difference.

I ordered mine that way and just put my own wheels on it

To clarify: you can order a 6.2L without the NHT package, with 3.42 gears. I think that anything available on a 5.3, can be had with the 6.2/3.42 combo, but the NHT is "geared" towards hauling/towing. 17" wheels gives more side-wall to absorb the shock of a heavy load over rough roads.

I think it's more of a tire limitation, GM puts LT-spec tires on NHT trucks I think but all of the 1500 20" wheels come with P-rated tires that would not be sufficient.

Unless they've changed, the NHT comes with P265/17 tires.

You're right, I could've sworn when I was looking at options at the beginning of the year that it said LT tires but I guess not.

I may not be totally correct but I think it has something to do with the tow/weight rating. There is not much "flex" in a 20" tire and they are not rated as strong as a 17-18 for towing/hauling weight. The NHT comes with tires rated for the capacity of the truck.

I had the same problem when I went to order my 2012 (be here soon). I tried and tried to get the 6.2L with the 20s and the dealer said that it was not a possible combination. I was a little bummed, but what can you do?

You can get the 20's but you are limited to the 3.42 gears when ordering your truck with the 6.2.

AFAIK, the only difference between the NHT and standard 6.2 is that the NHT has 3.73 gears, and a (I think) a slightly stiffer rear spring.

The NHT package is limited to 17" wheels only,if you order the 6.2 as a separate option you can get 18's or 20's,but are limited to 3.42 gears as mentioned.

That pretty much sums it up,non-NHT trucks have 3.42 gears, and the option of going with either the Z71 susp. w/18's,or the Z60 susp. w/20's.
