overhead console homelink

:D I am pretty psyched right now.  When I first saw homelink on JPCustom for my overhead console, I thought, I have to have it.  Then I saw that it was $190.  Since then, JULY, I have gone on e-bay every single day just waiting for someone to have one for sale.  I found it.  Someone had listed an overhead console from an early 90's truck with rear heater controls and, you guessed it, homelink.  I bought it for $99.  I took the homlink out of the console and installed it in mine.  No problem.  Perfect fit.  Now I'm going to try to sell the console again on e-bay replacing homelink with the standard garage door opener compartment from my truck.  How cool is that???????

Way to cool and are you ever lucky, I'm looking hard for one myself. I guess I didn't make it to ebay on time or fast enough. Any hints as to your search topic for it.  Homelink maybe?  Let us know.

Congrats :thumb:

Yes, I have the long OH console.

I'm a little confused though.

I didn't think Homelink made it into higher end cars like Aurora's, Buick's, and Caddy's until the mid 90's.  How did you find an early 90's truck console with Homelink in it?  Also, didn't you have to change the mounting piece that contours to the ceiling curves?

Just confused (which isn't uncommon).  :D

The long overhead console is exactly the same from 1988-2002 as far as I know.  I kept my console, just put homelink in the spot for the garage door opener.

I searched under "overhead console".  in ebay motors.  Huge pain in the azz but if you check the entire list once, all you have to do is click "new today" or "newest" and look at what's new.  I think the thing was on there for less than an hour when I saw it.  It was around 2am.  figured i'd look one more time before bed.  Sweet dreams that night.

Is the console you might sell the long one, or the short one?  What color is it?  Basically if it's the long one in gray I may be interested in it.  You can post here or PM me.

Also search for "upper console", "upper storage", "overhead storage" and things like that.  I usually don't even go into eBay motors -- I just search right from the main eBay page.

ok, go to jpcusom.com and look at the homelink feature that he sells.  all you get is the piece that is about 4"x6" with 3 buttons on it. I found an entire overhead console that looks just like the one that came in my truck, but, it already had the homelink part in it.  so, all i had to do was take it out of the one I bought on ebay, and put it in mine. Again, the console is exactly the same size, shape, color, etc. I don't have any idea what vehicle it came out of though.

What the heck is homelink?  lol, I am a little slow

It is a built in feature that you can have on your vehicle that can control 2 garage door openers. It also has a middle button that you can use to turn on remote lights in or around you home, or even your home's alarm system. Really a nice feature to have. A ton stronger than the standard garage door openers and you don't have to worry about changing batteries. We have on in our Venture Van and I'm looking for one for my truck. I'm keeping an eye on ebay myself.

Who knows Santa might bring me one.  I have been a good boy this year.   Well so far I have.

Santa is well known to bring cool stuff to my house for my trucks.  I just cant get my wife to believe that they are really from santa.

Homelink sounds way cool, I will definitely look into it.  Santa was running out of ideas for my new truck, this will be perfect.

I don't know if it is the same size unit, but, go to e-bay.  search for "overhead console"  there is one on there right now from a bravada or s10 blazer that has homelink, buy it now price $125.  once you get the search results, click, "new today"  it will be easier to find.

I guess the only confusion I have/had was that

1) Homelink wasn't available until the mid to late 90's and at that time it was only available on high end cars like Caddy's, Buick's and Oldsmobile's (My 98 Aurora had it).  It wasn't until the late 90's that it became available on GM trucks.

So that leads kinda into #2

2) It wouldn't have been available in the early 90's on a GM truck.  Not to mention, I thought the early 90's trucks had a slightly different console mounting piece than ours.

That's all.  IF this is one that someone already modified, that's a different story.  Just pointing out where my confusion was coming from.  :D
