Splotchy look on my stock rims.

I've recently noticed that my wheels on my truck are starting to look splotchy. It's mostly just on one wheel. Maybe very slightly on the others, but mostly just one. It shows up best when in the sunlight. I was trying to show a friend tonight when it was starting to get dark and you couldn't see it at all. Or on a cloudy or overcast day it won't really show up. Is it in the clearcoat? Anybody know if there is anything that can be done?

Here are a couple of pics I snapped with my phone today after washing it.

I had the same problem on my 09 factory wheels corrosion! Dealer replaced under factor warrenty .Said GM knows about the wheel problems and will replace them one time only under warrtey .Try your dealer you my be surprised! P.S. I don't use ANY All WHEEL cleaners that claim to be safe on factory clear coat wheels they seep under the edges and start corroiding. Try using simple green 50% removes brake dust very well Good luck at the dealer Dave

My truck is too old for the warranty to do anything. I heard somebody say once that simply green was too harsh. Mixed 50/50 with water is it guaranteed safe?

it happens too all GM truck rims from what it seems.. regardless of what you use. the rims on my 2001 and 2003 look tike that too. very annoying

My 03 did the same except more concentrated areas. I spoke with a local wheel tech and determined I was kinda out of luck.

It is a well known corrosion problem with clear coated aluminum, not just GM. Probably why they have gone to the "Chrome Clad" design.

My 98 wheels looked terrible and it lived a pretty soft life with only 40000 miles in 14 or so years.

powder coat them

You mean powder coat them black? Wouldn't painting them silver or something look sorta funny?

I thought about just buying new rims, but I don't think I could get much for these and they still look pretty good overall.

Not necessarily they can powder coat just about any color nowadays. I have looked at silver/gray and they look nice

powder coating black would be ugly.. gray or silver wouldnt be bad, but i would just try and live with it like i decided to. i actually just sprayed over my rims with a clear engine enamel to try and help protect them more
