Name those common problems...any generation.

I bought this truck brand new 5+ years ago. Can't stand the idea of trading it but I just have to rant about all the "fun" things I either had problems with or possibly look forward to...

Castech Heads - Cracked/internal leaks

Autotrac Transfer Case - Pump rub

Hub Bearings

Intermediate Steering Shaft - Clunk!

Evap/Vent Solenoid - Getting stuck

Blower motor resistor - burning out/burning up

GM Piston Slap

G80 - Grenading

Blender Doors - Blowing air however it darn well wants to

Brakes - Rotor warp

Power Steering - gear box issues

So did I hit them all yet?

Feel free to chime in to add or tell me to shut it at your pleasure.

Ha! Great topic... You might hit a record with top responses...

Definitely top on my list would be power steering gear box (went at 41k and at 68k and no offroading!), intermediate shaft clunk, and the diesel-like cold start knock!!!

Interior on GMT-800... Where do I end?!? Flaking interior dash! More flimsy plastic parts than Joan rivers...

Hmmm...

Great thread idea! My biggest pet peeve lie in the interior of my truck. There are so many rattles I can't stand it sometimes. The way the dash rattles, the way the door pannels rattle, the center console, the list goes on and on.

On the bright side, the motor is a beast!

Oh i hope this is not what i have to look at within the next 8 years. I hoped by 2011 they had all the bugs rattled out of the GMT 900.

Great thread idea.

GMT-800: I'll have to say that besides all the problems caused by me directly  , My truck has been pretty solid. Here are the only pet peeves I currently have.

-Front Hub Bearings (replaced twice before buying the Camburg Kit)

-Flaky dash (I only have one spot on the passenger dash, but it is annoying)

-G80 Grenaded (But after 140k on 4.56 and 35"s!)

-Water Pump (OK this is annoying, replaced 3 times!)

The rest of my problems seem to be caused by me and the under-sized drivetrain. I would add fuel pump to the list but I have gotten 150k out of it, so I cannot complain too much.

i personally dont think castech heads are should be considered a common problem.... its rare..

i dont think the auto trac transfer case is an issue either, never seen that before

hubs, those are a problem, i have seen and heard on many going out.

shafts a problem

evap getting stuck seems really rare

blower resistor is definatley common

i dont think piston slap is an issue on the 800's

G80 definatley not a common problem

blender doors definatley a problem

power steering not a problem other then them being noisy

things to add, creaky interiors,

im not arguing or saying im right and your wrong at all,im just saying what i think

Well I compiled this list based on my readings from this forum mostly about the 800s. After its what I drive. So its all going to be relative to experience & where you live or work. But hey like I said add to it & all generations welcome.

None of the things listed really apply to the 900s.

I have had problems with hub bearings, intermediate steering shaft, blower motor resistor, and ring and pinion on a g80. I did by my truck used, but I havent even had it 6 months. It makes me not want to buy another chevy. My dad has a 2001 and has never had a problem with it, no rattles either. If I wasnt so loyal to chevy, I would probably look into something else. Im actually saving up to get a z71, which would be a gmt 800 too, and im sure I will have to fix all that stuff on it too. Wish I could afford a newer one

So far knock on wood my 2011 chevy is awesome. only thing I found so far is leaf spring noise. which they have to lube once every 6 months.

How much oil it drinking? Where its the clinking?

I am asuming you're asking me? 2qts. per 3000 miles. Started at 30,000. The clunk is the 2nd to 3rd upshift.
