I've got an Olympus 3020Z 3.2 megapixel camera and couldn't be happier with it.  It takes awesome pics.

It also took a pretty good fall and survived (that's the last time I let someone else use my camera)

A good place to check prices is here:

http://www.mpsuperstore.com/

They have some of the better deals that I've found.

Previous to that I had a Hewlett Packard 1.2 megapixel camera.  Photo quality wasn't too bad, but I needed something better.  Currently my girlfriend is using the camera and she is happy with it.  I just needed more quality photographs for my web page and photo editing.

Whatever you do, get some rechargeable batteries, it is a very good investment.

I have a nikon coolpix 4500 (4 megapixel) and i like it alot but it is a lot of camera and a bit to complicated for some of the stuf I do, my neibor has a little cannon digital elf s330 (2 megapixel) that i also like a lot, nice picture, easy point and click and the size of a pack of smokes, prolly a better choice for cashual photos

A verry nice site to cheack out is www.dpreview.com, he is verry critical and verry thourough

beware of online retailers selling cameras, there is one shady company that owns several on-line camera places

pay more and buy locally OR chack the site out on http://www.resellerratings.com/

I forgot to mention, make sure it's the actual pixel depth rating, some companies sell cameras that are 12 megapixes (6.0 megapixes actual) or something like that.  And it's reputable companies like Nikon as well.  Those cameras use software to increase pixel depth.  Just stray away from those they are a rip off.

Also, there's some new technology coming out, x3 which takes higher res digital pics which are comparable to that of a standard film camera recoding red green and blue for each pixel.  Just a heads up if you're going to be shelling out some major $$$ for a camera.  This stuff came out a year ago, do a search for it, you can find some cool stuff.  There are already cameras available using this technology.

I have a Kodak DX3600 it is without a doubt idiot proof. 2.1 Megapixal with 2x optical and 4x digital zoom. Takes great quality pictures with real easy tranfer to puter too. Before that I had an RCA 1.5 MP that worked well too.

Ahh, they have a new name for it X3, used to be called Foveon.  Sigma is the only one making a camera that I know of (http://www.sigmaphoto.com/Html/news/news_sd9_fs.htm).  Very promising technology.  I am waiting for them to come out in my price range.  the SA-9 does not appear to be released yet and is about $1800.  Till then I am still shooting film.

I have a 3 or 4 year old Epson.  It's been a great camera, and is around 1 megapixel.  I do need to upgrade it, and I will look at the new Epsons again.

I am running the "Image Expert" photo program on my computer.  It's very user friendly and simple to create albums and to transfer pics to and from.

Sony DSC-P1.  3.3 Megapixel.  Works good for close-ups and medium range shots.  Doesn't have a large zoom lens for long distance shots, but works good for my use.  Takes great pictures.

Sony Mavica MVC-FD92.  It works well- does stills and video.  Nice thing about a lot of their cameras is the ability to save files right on a floppy...Mine also takes a memory card as well.  Very usable.

Sony Mavica, too. Since Summer of 2000. Got it to take on ATV rides. Has held up well. I chose it as I could take pics directly to a floppy and hand them to anyone and they could use them.

Polaroid PDC 640

Nothing special, but it works well, and it was only $98 dollars.  Does everything I need it to do.

Tom has a real nice one, but I'm not sure what kind it is.

I'm shopping hard right now for the Sony DSC-P31.  I keep getting outbid on Ebay.  I'm holding out for a deal, but have a feeling I'm gonna have to give in.  :D
