Heater problems.. NEED HELP!

I'm about to give up on this truck and trade it in.. Here's a little history on this problem.

About a month ago I turned my truck off when i arrived to work, Did not notice but my fan/ blower stayed on and didnt turn off until the battery drained. I did my research, found that the resistor is a common issue and replaced it immediately. I have the Auto climate control so i had to get the one that was not under the special campaign.

After i replaced the resistor, i had weird symptoms of the blower sometimes working when the display saying its on full blast ,and other times not... So i remembered that when this whole thing started i did smell a burning smell in the truck and i contributed that to the ressitor and or blower / motor. So next thing i did was put in a new ac delco blower / motor.

It has worked great since, for about 2 weeks now.

Today, i remote started my truck since it was 15 degrees outside this AM and waited 10 min. got in my truck and it was ice cold inside and blower was not working! The display shows its on high blasting but it is not! I hit the button to turn the display off and then turned defrost back on and it went on no problem and has been working fine since this morning..

What could be the issue? I'm thinking the next thing to replace in the line is the auto climate control display / module in case it somehow fried when this whole thing started...???

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thankyou in advance!

check the connector at the resistor first ,the connector may be melted ,please dont throw a module at your truck untill someone tells you its finished and not self diag.d

The connector at the resistor was cut off and the new harness was spliced in. When this problem was happening before when i thought it was a defective blower, i put a multimeter to the harness going to the blower (2 wires) and depending on the fan speed it was range from 6-12v. So that is not a problem..

The only other thing i can think of is the module in the dash if it is not sending a signal to the ressitor to turn on.... ??????

If you start the truck normally does the same thing happen? I don't trust aftermarket alarms/remote starts...

And the 900s are real nice if you do want to get a new one! :D

It did happen before once and a while if i started it by key.. So far it just messed up once today. I remote started 4 times today and it was just this AM it messed up.

The 900's are nice. My dad had one , But i dont want another 6-7 years of payments now and I have my truck just how i want it now... I just replaced the upper intermediate shaft and had a front bearing replaced, so it drives great now.

This whole heat issue started with the resistor making the fan go nonstop and it seems like its spiraling .. Im thinking about just buying a control module off ebay and trying it out ... Anyone have any other ideas what could cause the control module to say its running but the fan isnt blowing? Once i cycle the power off / on it turns right on... almost like it did not get the signal.???

Your not missing anything. They look great, but break just as easily ... if not more so than the 800's. Mines a garage queen with 51k on it & I have a laundry list of problems .... Your smart to save your cash.

Good luck on your repair.

I don't know if a HVAC control unit will be a drop in replacement. Hopefully one of the techs here can verify that.

i say get a DIAGNOSES first but do what ya want ,your not the first person to throw parts at your truck ....good luck

Rob, What would they do to diagnose a problem like this? I appreciate any help you can provide, but most of your posts are to direct people to mechanics / dealers..... The whole point of this forum section is to try and help other members out with solutions to problems especially when out of warranty rather than to just pay the dealer for something I could do... With some guidance...

If you have and direction on how to diagnose this , it would be greatly appreciated, thanx.

A TECH II scanner would be one thing that is used to diagnose problems. Rob hates to see people piss away money by throwing parts at some problems. If you want help in diagnosing, a service manual would be a good start.

06-- the amount of electronics on todays vehs is staggering,,,,no one knows this and rushes here for a devine fix ,,,,not happening ,

NOT happening i am like a GD broken record because its THE SMART THING TO DO !!!!!! last time i checked no one is chitting out money lately,my message is CLEAR .....

SPEND MONEY WISELY !!!!!

there are some things that cannot be fixed over the internet especially electrical and drivability concerns/complaints !!!!!!!

it pains me to say that because kids come here for help....I GET IT !!!! can u rebuild a transmission ?? i can but joe blow doesnt and taking it in and say "fix my 3-4 clutch " pisses the tech off,,self daignoses is THE WORST thing a person can do ....you have no idea WTF i mean ,

and 9 out of 10 people cant fix their own vehs ,,,,,people need information and experience

im sorry i havent been a walking service manual,i used to be before i left the general

Tx, thankyou.. you reminded me i did have a service manual that i bought a while back. I see where the tech ll comes in to diagnosing this with triggering the fan on/off etc...

gov, I have a fairly decent knowledge on vehicles and it is only growing more when i an tested with a new problem that i must fix. If at the beginning of this whole hassle i went to the dealer and had them replace my resistor , I would have been out $3-400 easily for part and labor.. But there was plenty of info online directing me towards repairing it myself. I cannot see going to the dealer for something that i can fix if someone has had the same issue before / knowledge of what is going on and has a fix for it.. That is why i came on here first to see if anyone knows what the issue could be.

If it ends up no one knows what the issue could be, i will sweep up whats left of my pride and go to the dealer..

Again thankyou for trying to steer me towards the connector at the resistor .. That was the kind of info i was looking for .

On another side note, In the back of my head i am remembering weird things that have gone on in the past with my hvac control module like the a/c randomly turning on in the middle of winter when my defrost is on... that was why i was gearing towards throwing that module at it to try and fix the current issue and other nagging issues. Worst case , i can relist the module back on ebay and sell it again if it does not fix the issue.

i get the "everyone" issues these trucks have and that passing of info is absalutly priceless and i am happy to do it also...
