If i was to get an SUV it would have to be a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Probably the Penstar V-6 if i wanted milage, it's not as good as a crossover, but the Jeep is more of a true "SUV" if you ask me in regrads to off-road and towing capability.

I would avoid Kia and Hyundai. They change designs so often that it is hard to find parts for those cars.

 

Quite honestly I really think you should stick with the truck. Trucks hold resale value better than most cars. You've gotta get into the mindset that fuel economy really isn't that big of a deal. Take it from someone who got rid of his Diesel because I thought the price of Diesel was too high. I went back to a 1/2 ton truck and it just was never good enough for me, I was lucky enough to be able to buy back my Diesel, and am perfectly happy and content now. Though I took a hit in trading the 1/2 ton back for the 3/4 ton Diesel :( Do I really need it? Not right now, but one never knows what the future will bring. Unless you are going to have more than 3 kids, your truck will do just fine for a family.

I like the edge. If I was to buy a small SUV I would lok at Equonix and Edge. But if your a truck guy, you are sure to be sorry if you sell the truck, I can honestly say I will never be without a truck and 4x4. I don't care if I never use it, it's here if and when I need it.

 

But you have to do what's right for you and your needs

Keep the truck. You will regret selling the it. Any comparable SUV will have similar/worse mpg's, and will cost you a lot of $$$ to buy, not to mention the trade in tax (loss) the dealer charges you. If you need enclosed space, just get a camper or a tounneau cover, and you will be much better off. Good luck on your decision.

I toss 3 kiddos into my truck (a few wks old, 3yrs, and 10yrs), and it's no harder than putting them into the Tahoe. And the Tahoe gets terrible mpg...comparable to my truck. I think you would have to go with a mid-size to get any improved mpg, and like others have mentioned I don't think you will be happy. I say keep what you've got.

Traverse, Acadia? I've heard good things about the Edge. I don't know how the new ones do for mileage, but I've always like the explorer sport tracs. The cab is huge, and if you don't need a bed they don't have much of one. Buddy has one, the thing handles snow and mud like a demon, and has stood up to him mercilessly abusing it, never any issues.

I would go with a traverse, room like the tahoe with a V6

My family has outgrown my truck, but it is still no problem to throw four kids in and go! Besides the gas mileage I cannot say that I'd improve anything about the truck; it can tow or haul when I need it to, seats five comfortably, is fast enough to avoid an accident in some situations, and handles well enough in inclement weather (with Auto 4WD) or for mild off-roading (4 HI).

 

I traded a '99 Sentra in for the truck. That Nissan was used to haul quite a bit, perhaps the heaviest load was two @100 lb dogs and about a half-ton of tools from VA to KY eight years ago.

I agree with most...keep the truck....especially if you're a truck guy. For me, trading my truck for a crossover suv would be like givng up my left nut....and I'm really partial to that one, haha. A tahoe or yukon would be okay....at least they're still like driving a truck....and can pull a decent trailer. But, personally...I don't think that trade is worth the money. Your extended cab truck will haul a wife and kid just fine...unless your kid ends up being like 6'2"...then he or she made need a little more leg room, haha. And just fyi, my friend's wife just bought a new tahoe, and it gets better mpg than her old traverse did. That's my two cents...good luck.

I would keep the truck. Maybe even look at getting a crew cab.

 

My mom has an Enclave. I have to say it's a damn nice suv to drive...and she's had no problems with it at all. Seats 8, the whole family fits in it and has decent towing capability. Not as good as a full size truck, but will tow your atv no problem.

      I just brought home a 2020 GMC 1500 Denali.  She has 53K miles on her and I want to change out the fluids over the next few weeks.  I see the diff covers don't have drain plugs.  Any suggestions where I can pick up front and rear diff covers with drain plugs?   Thanks,   Bob

      Well, the dealership got the compressor and installed it. Air at the vents seems nice and cold as it should be. The service manager said the repair has a two year warranty and unlimited mileage. Hopefully I don't have to use it. The dealership i went to was one where I bought my 2014 half ton silverado. In 10 years and 168k miles on the truck anything I needed done and two small recalls they were always very good to me. Not a huge dealer either. I think they treat people well because they want you to come back. I have dealt with a different dealer that was too big to care about an individual. Just my two cents.

      Hi All, I operate my 2021 3500 SLT most of the time with the tailgate off and in a crate because I have a slide-in camper. However, at least once a year, I take the camper off and put the tailgate back on. Recently I installed the tailgate, but had a hard time getting the connector bail to swing to the fully latched position. The connector seems to fully seat, and everything works, but the bail doesn’t swing to fully latched position.  It swings almost there but stops and I am afraid to push it any harder.    Does anyone have any advice on cleaning or lubrication or anything else I should be doing?  i know how to properly operate the connector. During the time the tailgate and connector are off, i have a double plastic bag over the truck connector secured with rubber bands to keep it clean, but it still had some dust in it this time when I blew it out with compressed air. I didn’t want to spray it with anything other than air without doing some research. Thanks.

      There are a lot of spammer's that do that, quote something and add some commentary to make it seem legit, but modify the quoted text a bunch making sure when posted it's long enough to be "click to expand", and either immediately insert a spam link, or come back after some time and edit it to add the spam link.

      Hello @jaszr2 Do you have a link for the item? I put a replacement bumper on my truck and consequently had to relocate the shutters. I studied on them a while, and figured if you left a couple key blades, you could get most of the airflow with probably no throwing codes.
