Sierra rear end swap

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab Z-71. The truck has 80,000 miles.(i've owned it since new). The pinion seal failed and I lost most of my rear end lube before I discovered it. I drained and cleaned the diff and changed the pinion and axle seals. I filled it with Mobil 1 synthetic 90 weight. It was too little too late. The rear end is making a growl. My rear end has drum brakes. Can I swap in a rear end that came with disk brakes(using my drum brakes)? What years will swap easily. I believe my ratio is 3.42. Thanks, Bob

If you swap make sure you get the same gears. 99-07 classic gmt-800s will all should swap easy.
