Removed my head ache wrack and rear bed bars. Next I hope to replace the window vents removing the last of the Chrome.

Earned another battle scar for the Silverado this morning. Went to grab a '98 Ram 1500 plow truck for one of my best friends. Thing was a mess. Had to jump it for 15 minutes just to get it running ... plus another 15 minutes to get the hood open first. It had a bunch of firewood loaded on the wooden flatbed, so we drove in the woods a bit to dump it all. On that short trip, 2 brake lines and a wheel cylinder blew - there were absolutely ZERO brakes. Not even a little - NONE! Just getting the truck into position was a nightmare, since we were loading it on the side of a major highway - my buddy had to keep jamming it in park to stop, lol.

 

Anyway, once we found out the plow would just shove my ramps aside, we flipped it around and backed it on. I set up some chock blocks to make sure he didn't drive off the edge. He was 2-footing the brake and gas (just out of habit), and accidentally jumped on the throttle in 4-low. Hit my chock block and slid it right off the edge ... along with the truck. Trailer hitch hit my open tailgate and bashed it in a bit, then the rear differential smacked into my winch on the trailer, thankfully - that's the only thing that kept him from driving right through my tail lights and mangling the box.

 

Definitely could've been worse! Only  5"x4" dent, maybe 1/2" deep. It peeled up my bedliner in a 1" square right down to the primer. Not too bad considering! That's the second vehicle that winch saved my truck from, LOL.

 

We jacked each side of the truck up, and threw my ramps under the rear wheels, then used load binders to drag it up and over the ramps, back onto the trailer. Tied the toilet down, and hauled it 30 miles home.

My little incident today would've torn that step right off the tailgate, for sure.

 

My next "new" truck is going to look just like this: :)

One day long ago my sun roof was left open in the rain, as a result everything got good and wet. The radio did not respond well and has since been super Dim and difficult to see. I decided I would tackle the repair with no clue of what I was getting into. I figured as with most cars I could replace the face plate. I went to the junk yard and nabbed the first one I saw. Brought it home for $10 and took mine apart to make the repair. That's were it stops. Almost every radio while similar on the outside is a little different under the mask. All the cars have a board with LEDS under each button and others have a light transfer. So back to the salvage yard to find on similar to mine. Not one truck on the yard, so I'm working with GM cars. I found another one looking right and back to the house. Removed it all a 2nd time and would ya know another different design. No fan power on the replacemwnt and small readout. Wow. Ok. So I ordered another parts radio with a working display that I can bread with mine to repair the display. Return to the job next week when the correct part number radio arrives.

The days of GM building stuff that's easy to service went out with the Oldsmobile 350 diesel, unfortunately

Discovered that my tailgate not opening as slowly is likely a bushing. Will investigate after work, but nice to know it's relatively easy.

This morning I repaired a problem with a cluster somebody brought me after they had attempted a fix.  After their attempt 5 gauges didn't work in the truck. Only Tach and Speed.  It would work on the bench but not in the truck.  I had this sumbitch apart 6 times then it struck me like a ton of bricks, the 5 gauges that didn't work were all fed by serial GMLan. I located the pin (PIN A6 ) and traced it. I can't believe why somebody would do this to a circuit board, they actually cut a trace on the board with an exacto knife.  I jumpered the cut with a soldered piece of wire and now everything works.

Guilty. LOL. I had a Porsche 928 with a Printed Circuit board. I cut an glued in a chunk of wire in place of a burnt section. It worked a long time and still does as far as I know. Just sold it.

Cousin went back home up north for winter break, decided as her Christmas present I'd have some maintenance done on her Acura.  Since I hurt myself and I'm lazy I had my buddy come over and he did an oil change.  Tomorrow or Friday I'll have him change the transmission and brake fluids.  I think I'll also get the tires balanced and an alignment done for her as well.  Still waiting to get my truck back, tomorrow will make it 7 weeks.

Today I did my first short bed single cab cluster repair in 8 years, it was a 2005 Silverado.

Just out of curiosity how clean was the inside of her car?  Maybe detailing the inside would have been a pretty good gift too.

It's not good.  I could have but then I'd have to take everything out vaccum and all that stuff and I didn't feel like dealing with the pain of the cleaning movements.  She can clean it herself if she wants.  Plus when I finally get my truck back it's going to need a good cleaning too.  Got her tires balanced and front end aligned on Friday.  Looks like the fluid change will happen on Sunday now.

I needed two 1/4 washers. They cost 21 cents each.

 

I'm just going to start drilling holes in coins. I'll save 11 cents using a dime :lol:
