So in my daily routine of work i see alot of construction materials come and go, but one guy sticks in my head alot, he comes in about once a week and gets about 3 tons worth of shingles and another 800 pounds of plywood between his bumper pull trailer and his ford ranger...and everytime i try to tell him that its way too much for that truck, he then retorts with "its got the edge package, its an f150 with a ranger body" which just makes me scratch my head, yesterday he told me that his ranger can haul more then a 1500 chevy :dunno: i can't find what exactly the edge package was so who knows but i thought i'd share that story with you folks lol

Isnt the edge just a 4x4 appearance pkg?

I have no idea, i tryed just googleing it and i really got no detail to what it is...hell i even looked at the truck in minor detail and noticed nothing special :dunno:

i forgot to note the same guy also claimed that ford owns the hemi now

Edge was a few things over the years. Some were "fake" 4x4s (the stance of a 4x4 but 2WD). Toward the end they were a sporty pkg with body color bits everywhere.

There was never a extra payload Ranger. The guy is full of shit and is gonna get someone killed loading a Ranger like that. Hopefully just himself.

this guy should have his man card revoked, ford never did much special with the edge edition. It was mainly appearance.

This is a sums up of the edge nicely:

"Shown to the public for the first time at the Chicago Auto Show earlier this year, the Edge is so named because it will be a bit “edgier” than the regular Rangers. It will offer a host of features designed to appeal to high school and college-age kids, as well as be affordable."

Nothing in there about a ranger body on a f150 chassis. hahaha

So basically he just owns a high school boys pickup...

One of the ladies who worked in the finance office of the dealer I used to work at had one too.

Lol I bet he would feel real manly driving it around, and trying to brag it up after reading in this topic!

isnt the edge like the sport edition? any one that would say they have a ranger on an f150 body has issues.

LOL....Edge is an appearance package. I bet he feels dumb not even knowing what kind of truck he has.

They come in like FX4, level I-II, not much but interior differences and suspension. Nothing special.

At one time I owned a '99 Ford Ranger XLT with the 3.0L, reg cab, 2wd. It did have the same payload as my current Sierra, ~1600lbs. However :bs: to everything else that guy claims. No way, no how!

The Edge package is a sportier package than the regular 2wd Rangers. All Edges (no matter if it is 2wd or 4wd) sits the same height. The reason being is even the 2wd Edges have the 4wd front suspension minus the axle; Edges have the same torsion bar suspension as all '98+ 4wd Rangers.... The Edges also have color matched fender flares and bumpers. Other than that, they are the same as other Rangers......

    • Even tougher is the 5.0 / 302. That's what this one has.    https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   https://postimg.cc/4n3F3yzY   Just realized I had the airbox removed in the engine pic, lol.
    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
